Some depressing news out of Hong Kong. I don't know what to say: Resistance will certainly continue in some form, but this proves another case in which the Hong Kong government aims to put the best and brightest--those who be in positions of leadership in society--behind bars.

AI misinformation represents a growing threat to election integrity. What could SF do to safeguard its own election system?
Turns out one supervisor is already working to find answers.

Yesterday was Willie Mays Day in SF.
Just got word from The New York Giants Preservation Society that their donation drive for Willie Mays' Say Hey Foundation just reached $2,424.24. (Apparently a last-minute donation helped nudge the numbers into their rightful place.)
Read more about how people in SF and around the country honored the iconic ballpalyer while marking Willie Mays Day yesterday (2/4/24).

My first piece for the Examiner! Trying to get a handle on how X has changed, and what it could mean for SF's elections this year.
🗳 The 2024 election cycle is underway.
Some X users said they worry that a platform that many have relied on to stay in the know about San Francisco politics has become less informative and more inflammatory.

What if TW had an instant runoff (alternative vote) system instead of first past the post? My pre-election survey asked about preferences, and only 57.6% of Kou supporters put Hou second. international.thenewslens.co… (2/3)
They may live an ocean apart, but the Bay Area's Taiwanese community is still finding ways to get involved in this Saturday's presidential election.
I had a chance to speak to a few of them for the latest edition of Taiwan Talk for @ICRTNews

Yes, it's goodbye. The final episode of @FifthandMission is a thoughtful farewell from @CeeLei. Like many talented audio makers right now, all of us on the team will be figuring out our next steps as the Chronicle ends its podcasts.
It's been a privilege.

I’ve put off writing this note but it’s time to face the difficult thing that I’m still processing: @FifthandMission is ending, the podcast I’ve produced and hosted for over 2.5 years.
Today’s final episode is my goodbye note and reflection to listeners. sfchronicle.com/podcasts/art…

I'll be leaving the Chronicle soon. Like so many others, I'm trying to figure out where to step next in this fraught moment for media. Totally unclear where our craft is headed.
Whelp, that didn't last long.
Second time working for a Bay Area newspaper. Second time getting hit by a mass layoff within the first three months. Oof.
So sorry for all my talented colleauges who lost their jobs yesterday, as well. Oof X 8.
