One veteran UNRWA geography teacher—15 years with the agency—objected when colleagues pushed antisemitism and glorified violence. An administrator confronted her with scissors and said: “We’ll make you wish for death, and if you don’t stop arguing, we will cut your tongue.”
In the West we take academic freedom for granted. In Gaza, dissent is met with threats of mutilation while kids are prepared for the next war. Until this stops, real peace is impossible.

Of course Jeremy Bowen thinks the war in Gaza is a genocide. Here he is making that claim to an audience at a recent event.
He has never found a sensationalist claim against the Jewish state that he didn't like, evidence be damned.
Given his record, nobody will expect him to apologise for this slander or any of his other misreporting, least of all the BBC, which rewards him for his biased and shoddy journalism.
Will our national broadcaster finally take action against Mr Bowen for breaking its rules on impartiality?

Sarah Helm, the wife of Britain's national security adviser, Jonathan Powell, took flak last week after appearing to support Palestine Action, the banned terror group, on Twitter. The police looked, but took no further action.
The Spectator can reveal that there is vastly more material, far more controversial than this, in Helm's tweets.
Helm has defended Hamas, questioned reports of mass rape by the terror group, blamed the 7 October attacks on the creation of Israel in 1948, compared Israel to the Nazis, and appeared to praise Syria's then dictator Bashar al-Assad for remarks in which he had called the Jewish state an 'outlaw colonial entity' populated by 'herds of settlers that are closer to barbarism than to humanity.'
She has also called for western military intervention against Israel and attacked her husband's own government for its 'complicity' and 'appeasement' towards Tel Aviv. Here are some of the highlights.

Response form Gideon Saar, Israel’s foreign minister, is pretty scathing: “The obsession of the British Labour Government with Israel seemingly knows no bounds.
“The days when Israel would quietly accept threats, sanctions and attempts to dictate its policies are over.

‼️🔎REVEALED: An internal document belonging to Hamas detailing plans to plant explosive devices in areas of displaced persons camps in Gaza.
The document shows that Hamas' engineering department proposed planting explosive devices around displaced persons camps and detonating them as IDF troops approached, placing the civilian population in the camps at risk, in order to create panic as a smokescreen for the escape of its operatives.
This was part of Hamas’ preparations to protect its leadership and operatives, while endangering and exploiting the civilian population in the area, fully aware that these actions were likely to cause direct harm to civilians.

I say YES.
But every meeting should end with a press conference where European leaders publicly thank Israel for the assistance and acknowledge that the country they condemn is the same country they turn to when they need help fighting terrorism.

The police have now reportedly announced that Sarah Helm’s post did not reach the criminal threshold and therefore that no further action will be taken.
So it’s illegal to express support for a proscribed terrorist organisation if you’re an ordinary person, but if you allegedly do it when you’re the wife of the National Security Advisor, that’s okay?
Aren’t we supposed to be a country where everyone is equal under the law?
With decisions like this, it’s no wonder that 89% of British Jews think the authorities are not doing enough to tackle political extremism.
Police inaction in this high-profile case beggars belief. It’s another nail in the coffin of British justice.
This is gobsmacking.
Sarah Helm, journalist and wife of Jonathan Powell, Britain’s National Security Adviser, posted this on X yesterday in response to the reports that author Sally Rooney’s books would no longer be sold in the UK due to her alleged support for Palestine Action.
Clearly, the police need to investigate and Ms Helm must face the full force of the law, just like others who appear to express support for any proscribed terrorist organisation. But this raises extremely serious questions for Mr Powell and the Government.
Spouses are entitled to independent views, but plainly Mr Powell, who leads on our country’s national security and has been intricately involved in our Middle East diplomacy, must publicly denounce this rhetoric if he is to continue in post.
If the wife of Britain’s top diplomat appears to openly support a proscribed terrorist organisation opposed to Israel’s existence, what message does that send to British Jews, many of whom are currently living in fear.
