Lyten takes over Northvolt's factories and says it won't grow too fast. That's exactly Christina Lampe-Önnerud's lesson on Transformers: you can't shortcut the manufacturing learning curve. New chemistry, same test: will Europe be patient this time? 🎧

War is coal’s new alibi. South Korea will burn more coal this winter as LNG supply is disrupted. “Temporary,” says Seoul. Read: bit.ly/4z8lIpK
But extra coal means more methane vented at mines in Australia and Indonesia, with 82× CO₂’s warming power, and it isn’t counted anywhere. Capture it. How? Visit methanebrief.org

The Oxford Economics Global Cities Index 2026 scored 1,000 cities on air quality, emissions intensity, natural-disaster risk and climate anomalies.
Two regions deserve a special shout-out.🇧🇷 Brazil places nine cities in the global top 30, more than any other country. Fortaleza is #2 in the world (96.9), followed by Aracaju (#5), Teresina, Recife, Natal, João Pessoa, Maceió, Salvador, and Belém, the city that hosted COP30.🇳🇴🇸🇪🇩🇰
The Nordics: Bergen #3 (96.4), Stockholm #7 (91.1), Malmö #12 (90.1) and Copenhagen #14 (89.7). Decades of clean power, district heating, public transport and people-first planning are paying off.Honolulu tops the list with a perfect 100.
At the other end, all 30 lowest-ranked cities are in Asia, 23 of them in China. Several, like Datong, Huainan, Pingdingshan and Fushun, are historic coal cities. A reminder that phasing out coal and cutting coal mine methane is also about clean air for millions of people.Rankings never tell the whole story. Geography helps (ocean winds, rainfall), and no city is immune to climate risk. But policy choices matter, and the Nordics and Brazils Northeast show what is possible.

The UN says it could be cut for 1% of the cost of steel. We ran the numbers, and the real cost may be even lower.
So what’s missing? A rule, a price and a buyer who asks. COP31’s two hosts could supply all three in November.

Mining the coal behind steel vents methane equal to roughly Japan’s entire annual emissions.
Fixing it: 1% of the price of steel.
So why hasn’t anyone done it?
