HISTORIC El Niño: Wild winter ahead across Canada and the United States. The new Euro forecast has the El Niño peaking above +4°C anomaly in December which is beyond bonkers. The first two images are the seasonal EURO MODEL for precipitation and temperature anomalies from average. It is explicitly forecasting one of the wettest winter's on record for Florida, especially central Florida. Which would inevitably come with a lot of severe storms and tornadoes. Temp. wise, a cool and cloudy winter in Florida and the Gulf Coast, with possibly one of the warmest winter's on record across Canada from the strong jet stream blasting warm air into Canada.
Interesting wildcard zones are KY/TN/AR with a drier than normal winter, and northern California with an extreme rain and wet signal showing up.
Buckle up, winter 2026-2027 (Jan-Mar) is going to be one to remember for a long time, especially in Florida and in California.

NOAA says wet in the South for Winter. BUT they do not buy the "cool" part of the Southeast. Instead they are going with near normal. What likely will occur is days will be cool with extra cloud cover/rain, but nights will probably end up around average. What's important to note about all this is: a strong subtropical jet stream will flood the US with mild Pacific air, and prevent Arctic outbreaks from intruding very far into the Southeast. So although models may call for "cool" air... they do not mean "cold" air. So I would not expect freezes and snow down to the Gulf Coast this winter. Instead its much more likely we will get rounds of severe weather. And for the NE snow weenies... maybe you should take the winter off :) Perhaps if you are lucky, you'll get one phase/ biggie and that will make your winter. But I think the "forecast is for frustration" for NE and Mid-Atlantic snow lovers.
🥶 Florida may be the Coolest place on Earth this winter, relative to normal! Really! Just the news we need after a sweltering week! The models show a very cool winter ahead in the Southeast and #Florida. In fact, when you zoom out you see a big blue blob (that’s us) - immersed in a sea of red (rest of Earth) this February. While the Earth will be experiencing its record warmest month in modern human history (seriously), the US South could have the coldest anomalies on Earth. This is due to blocking in eastern Canada, and an abnormally strong subtropical jet stream - due to Super #ElNino - with lots of clouds and probably excess rain too.

2026 and 1997 are east-based El Niño twins.
It's notably warmer across the eastern equatorial Pacific this year, which will drive stronger and longer atmospheric impacts.
The cool pools in the West Pacific also have striking similarities — which supports La Niña later in 2027.
