Belgium was happy to kickstart the reflection and exchange on MONUSCO’s mandate renewal in December, by hosting a round table with researchers and civil society and Security Council Members at our 🇧🇪 mission.

Today, together with @genderplatform, @cordaid, @WeAreNIMD & @PAX, #KingdomNL hosted a WPS side-event on re-imagining peace processes by shifting power.
Women peacebuilders from Colombia, the DRC & South Sudan shared their insights from the frontlines of peace & reconciliation.

❗️Economic empowerment is crucial for effective peacebuilding.
📢 Recommendations for the UN:
🔸In Colombia, prioritize flexible funding for women’s organizations, as peace lasts longer when women are involved. Dismantle colonial and patriarchal views on peace, recognizing that peacebuilding is a long-term process.
" In post-conflict settings, we must ensure women can travel to key meetings and set the agenda. The work intensifies after peace agreements; accountability for gender provisions is crucial.
