To oppose Forbes, another candidate, Cindy Burbank, also filed at the last minute on the Democratic primary ticket but has had her candidacy challenged by the state Republican Party and Nebraska’s Republican Secretary of State — who briefly had her removed from the ballot — leaving just Forbes on the ticket. Burbank sued and the state supreme Court put her back on the ballot. She has said if she wins the primary she will drop out and support Dan Osborn, the independent backed by the state Democratic Party
