HUGE news! 👏🏾
In a move towards improved #HealthEquity, OPTN eliminated race from calculations that estimate the function of kidneys from deceased donors. @NationalMOTTEP board member @TPurnell1908 was instrumental in advocating for this policy change. buff.ly/465AArt
It is a true privilege to help advocate for this important legislation 🙏🏾

Such a pleasure to attend the annual William Pearce Symposium @NMSurgery and see NW ⭐️medical student @AtehFontehMed present our work on the time earned back by Black transplant patients due to the new race neutral eGFR calculation. #dismantlingstructuralracism

Transplantation is magical.
Can a kidney transplant program set up in Rwanda also be sustainable?

Medicine is inseparable from how we live our lives in society at large, and medical schools do not prepare their graduates for the degree of activism needed to try and effect meaningful change.
Doctors, by and large (not everyone), are content to be part of the problem.
Really important, timely, and powerful work by a dear friend and co-resident @UMichSurgery . This should be required reading in academic surgical spaces as we work to operationalize equitable mentorship.
