80% of doctors now work for private equity and corporate entities. Doctors should be focused on their patients, not quotas set by investors who know nothing about medicine. I’ve got a bill to push back against the corporate takeover of medicine.

An international consensus group developed a comprehensive description of imaging features associated with geographic atrophy and risk to develop geographic atrophy in eyes with AMD. This information will be useful to clinicians and researchers. ow.ly/L85I50CZKuV

Important study from @Wills_Eye, @YoshiYonekawaMD, and my awesome co-resident Rebecca Soares revealing inequity in distribution of clinical trials. Shows that we need to do better, and maybe accounts for some of the gap between real-world vs. RCT outcomes.

Dear @nytimes photo editor: Huge fan here. But when you post pic of a guy grimacing while getting his vaccine (when shot actually feels like a pin prick), at least consider fact that 1000s may see this as reason to not get vaccinated. Some will die from that decision. Thanks.

Vaccine distribution should be based on risk assessment, not hierarchy. Everyone with exposure to Covid patients in ERs and ICUs - residents, fellows, attendings, nurses, respiratory therapists, janitors, etc. - should get a first round dose.
Stanford Medicine apologized for a plan that had just 7 of more than 1,300 residents getting a vaccine in the first round of doses. An algorithm assigned some senior faculty to get shots before front-line workers who treat COVID-19 patients. trib.al/Ddq3GpN
Enormously grateful for our scientists who made this possible. An amazing accomplishment. #IGotTheShot for my patients, colleagues, family, and friends. @UMiamiHealth @umiamimedicine @BascomPalmerEye @pfizer

Challenges brought by 2020 have led to renewed attention to and increasing awareness of healthcare disparities in the US. Data from a large national database shows us that ophthalmology is not exempt. We have a lot of work to do!
Among a large sample in the United States, minority race & lower socioeconomic status are assoc. with higher rates of #visualimpairment. These findings identify areas requiring improvement in population #eye health. @JoshUhr @RetinaPodcast @basilkwilliams ow.ly/M4QB50CkZjP
