When I met Angela Rayner to campaign for change to overly aggressive council tax debt collection, with its unprecedented rapid escalation to balliffs, she nodded like most politicians do.
I explained it was destructive for individuals, councils and the economy. She listened more then said she'd change it. I was sceptical. Yet a consultation was launched within weeks and delightfully the change announced within 18mths (its in place from next April) - bullet train pace for politics.
I've a rule that if I campaign for a politician (of any party) to do something, and they do it, I say thank you. Its important to recognise it. So thank you so much Angela Rayner for listening and more importantly acting. The changes coming are a great start.
I promised we'd make council tax fairer, and Iām getting on with the job.
Too many working people have seen council tax debt spiral before they had the chance to get help.
That's why we're introducing more time to pay, clearer warnings if you miss a payment and more support from councils.
Thanks to @MartinSLewis and @mmhpi for their tireless campaigning to make this change happen.

If the I Paper had spent more than 30 seconds researching, they would have noted that the deal was done in 2015. Burnham didn't become Mayor until 2017.

It takes very little critical thinking to see it's fake - but here we are

Enough is enough.
For years, people have been expected to put up with Avantiās cancellations, delays, overcrowding, and a service that has failed them time and time again.
So my Labour government is bringing Avanti West Coast into public ownership at the earliest opportunity in March next year.
That means passengers, not shareholders, will come first.
More investment, fewer delays, and a renewed focus on getting the basics right.
We're putting essential services back in public hands and building a railway that actually works for the people who use it.

If a foreign state has attacked the UK, youād think all British politicians would unite in condemning that state. Not Reform. Their first response is to lash out at the Government, and try and make political capital out of the incident.

Itās called campaigning, and itās also a signal that Labour donāt take the electorate for granted. No one is greater than the people or the communities we represent regardless of the office they hold.
Labour are worried. They've had the Foreign Secretary, the Chancellor, the Mayor of London & the Prime Minister out in Holborn & St Pancras - but we've got you. Hundreds of thousands of you who care & are making a difference!

The entire #SNLUK cast doing a whole X Factor group performance parody is the best sketch they have ever done. So beautifully British. Iām obsessed with every single one of them

Today's announcement mandating every phone, tablet and laptop sold in Britain must run default scanning and filtering software is a terrifying escalation.
Our warnings about this were previously dismissed as "wild hyperbole", but today the state has proven us right.
This legislation will not make children safer - instead, it delegates child protection and policing to unaccountable Silicon Valley giants, while subjecting the entire British public to automated population-wide surveillance.
Let's call this what it is: state-mandated spyware in our pockets.
šļøThere's no such thing as "device level controls for children" only digital ID checks for EVERYONE.
No one in a democracy should need to show their passport just to get online.
These plans would replace efforts for meaningful tech and parental responsibility with performative, authoritarian government control and technology that is ripe for abuse.

We spend a lot of time worrying about young people being radicalised online. But perhaps weāve been looking in the wrong direction.
I think Britain urgently needs to have a serious conversation about the radicalisation of our grandads one Facebook post, dodgy meme and furious comment section at a time.

It's incredibly concerning that Leeds' Green Group are using publicly funded SRAs - meant to compensate Councillors for extra time they give to local authorities - to fund roles within their party.
