🔴📣 Australia declares syphilis a national public health priority. In light of rising infections, syphilis has been declared a Communicable Disease Incident of National Significance. 🔴 In 2023 alone, there were 6,566 cases of infectious syphilis and 10 infant deaths from congenital transmission. 🔴 From 2016 to 2024, 99 cases of congenital syphilis were reported in Australia, 33 infants died. Over half were Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander. This declaration signals the urgent need for coordinated national action. Syphilis is not a neglected infection, it's a neglected response.
