Money is a resource and all MLB owners are wealthy enough to compete for any player they want. Many don't even try.
And, as you see with the Mets and Blue Jays this year, simply spending a lot of money does not guarantee success.
Honestly Hammy only hits big home runs so the fact the homer he hit was a killshot in a playoff series is less shocking than the overall fact he actually homered.
He has a right to talk his smack tbh. Every year people say the Brewers are going to be mid, not many picked them to beat the Dodgers (myself included).
They just took down Goliath.
I will say in a league where everybody is animated all the time -- which I have no issue with -- it is actually cold as hell the guys who don't celebrate.
It honestly hits a little harder lol
There’s no way you think the teams finding success without spending are somehow anti-analytics, right?
We’ve spent years talking about the Dodgers payroll, but are we asking the WRONG question?
Milwaukee, Tampa Bay, Cleveland… year after year, these organizations find ways to compete without spending like the giants.
At what point do big-market teams stop obsessing over analytics and start POACHING the scouts from these organizations?
Maybe the biggest competitive advantage in baseball isn’t payroll. It’s knowing how to IDENTIFY TALENT that can compete when the lights are the brightest?..
I swear I have never seen someone say "luck doesn't exist in baseball" maybe ever? At least not seriously.
The Brewers are a team predicated on speed and putting pressure on your defense to be perfect. The bonus is the guys they count on to hit homers have *also* hit homers.
"Luck Doesn't Exist In Baseball"
Hard Hit Balls (95+ mph)
- Dodgers: 29 (12 hits, no homers)
- Brewers: 21 (11 hits, 5 homers)
Soft Contact (under 95 mph)
- Dodgers: 40 (3 hits, .075 BA)
- Brewers: 42 (16 hits, .381 BA)
The Dodgers are making contact more often
The Dodgers are hitting the ball harder
Yet, the Dodgers have half as many runs/hits as the Brewers
Wild Stuff
The Brewers won 103 games and have one of the best pitching factories in the league. I think they're just good at doing enough to win baseball games.
I'm staunchly in favor of no salary cap but I will say in this economy I really might have to take a sabbatical from social media during this labor dispute.
MLB owners do not intend to pivot from their insistence on a salary cap and floor no matter who wins the World Series, per @JeffPassan
Their stance is “backed” by surveys that show fans want one

If the Dodgers come back and win the series, you can look at the decision to leave Uribe in as the turning point.
