I am grateful and excited to share this work. MscK is a beautiful protein - working with it has been a joy. Congratulations to my supportive coauthors, mentors, and friends who made this possible @YuanLabWUSTL, Grigory Maksaev (WUSTL), Brock Summers (WUCCI), and @JAJFitzpatrick.
Excited to share our latest work on gating of a potassium-dependent mechanosensitive ion channel, MscK. Work led by an amazing graduate student @JonathanMount6 Congrats to all authors Greg, Brock, @JAJFitzpatrick. nature.com/articles/s41467-0…

As tens of thousands across America protest the violence that ICE sows with impunity, federal agents shot and killed another person in Minneapolis today.

ICE terrorizes our cities. ICE puts us all in danger. Abolish ICE.

First they came for the Immigrants. And I wrote a memo. Then they came for trans people. And I wrote a memo. Then they came for the comedians. And I wrote a memo. Then they came for me. And there was no one to write a memo for me.

Fixed it: --> last year, the U.S. sold more educational services to the rest of the world than it sold in natural gas and coal **combined** --> every $1 of research funded by NIH generates $2.56 in economic activity --> more than 1.1M foreign students come to the U.S. each year to study and they contributed over $43 billion to the U.S. economy in foreign currency balances --> students who came to the U.S. to study founded 55% of America’s 582 start-up companies worth at least $1 billion --> cutting health research in Texas will cause a loss of 3,698 jobs and cost the economy $856M --> The University of Alabama is the largest employer in the state --> shortage of trained occ/env docs set to cost CA $1B RECEIPTS🧵

Oh please. There’s a lot of room for improvement at the NIH, but its entire budget is less than 1% of total federal expenditures in 2024.
Replying to @MacFarlaneNews
VA is the prime target for job cuts under Project 2025. If you want to reduce the size of the federal government, the VA and NIH is where you start. Nothing else makes a dent.

Two of the most qualified women in the country ran for president against an unqualified, racist game show host who had a history of committing fraud and sexual abuse. And the country was basically split 50-50. That should tell us some things.

The open state was certainly tricky to capture and revealed more than a few unexpected features! Happy to have played a role. Thanks and congratulations to @veburts @ChandaLab06 @YuanLabSinai @johncowgill11, Yongchang Chang, Jianhan Chen and Jian Huang, and Kathleen Bickel
