As the cost of running intelligence climbs, more people are turning to open models.
Akash's ecosystem serves both ends of that. AkashML inference for anyone without GPUs. Homenode for anyone with, renting out your card when you aren’t using it.

Revolut is down today because of a Google Cloud outage in London (europe-west2).
A power event in one availability zone knocked out multiple services. Revolut’s app, cards, and payments went offline (funds and data are safe). Other banks and services were hit too.
Why didn’t multi-region or multi-cloud save them?
They use Google Cloud heavily (multi-year partnership) and do multi-region for some workloads. But the critical path (auth, card authorization, payments) was still too dependent on the London region. When that region had issues, failover didn’t fully cover it.
True active-active multi-region/multi-cloud for stateful banking systems is expensive and complex (data consistency, latency, compliance, testing). Many fintechs accept the residual risk until an incident forces the issue.
Decentralized options like Akash $AKT can reduce single-provider risk in theory, but they don’t currently match the compliance, SLAs, and predictability banks need for production payments infrastructure.

" I'll just build my own data center."
" Mind the power bill."
That exchange is the whole AI infrastructure story in few words.
When you can't rent compute on reasonable terms, you build. When you build, you hit the grid. And the grid is years behind.
There's a third option that didn't make the sketch: the GPUs that already exist, already powered, already sitting idle.
@akashnet is the marketplace for those.

We held our first Capital Summit in Shanghai on Thursday, where we brought together hundreds of allocators and builders not just from China but from around the world to talk about capital formation around innovation.
Some of the things I learned:
- market cap for domestic listed companies is 1/6 of NY listed companies for equivalent earnings profiles
- the dominance of bio and life sciences IP originating from the Chinese research market
- there are over 50,000 SMEs from this market awaiting the opportunity to IPO

They never mentioned Akash.
They didn't need to.
🎥 Chamath on the default odds the market is pricing on CoreWeave debt 👇
In the first 25 min, @bhorowitz, @chamath, @Jason and @DavidSacks dissected the CoreWeave selloff. What they described is the exact problem decentralized compute exists to solve.
1/ Compute is sold out.
Ben says @ajassy told him the shortage runs "beyond 2028."
Sacks: H100s and A100s, generations old, still rent at premium prices.
Ben: the dot-com bust died from lack of demand. AI doesn't have that problem.
2/ The money is the weak link.
Some CoreWeave debt traded to ~15% yields as rates climbed.
CDS implied ~55% odds of default over 5 years. Chamath's caveat: that's the market's pricing, not his call.
Ben called neoclouds "Rube Goldberg financial machines."
Translation: simple job, absurdly complex setup. GPU contracts, data center leases, debt and memory buys all have to line up. One slips, the whole chain strains.
Sacks calls it "just volatility." That's the point: when your implied cost of capital can jump from 9.6% to ~15%, your growth depends on the bond market.
3/ Building is the bottleneck.
Ben: even labor to build data centers is hard, and politics make it harder.
Sacks: local communities aren't racing to hand out entitlements.
4/ Power is the ceiling.
The shortage is GPUs with power and cooling. Standing up gigawatts of new powered compute is hard even for Elon's team.
Put it together:
Demand isn't the problem.
Concentration is. Concentrated capital, concentrated sites, concentrated power.
Decentralized compute takes the opposite approach: an open marketplace for GPUs that already exist and are already powered, no $35B debt raise required.
Neoclouds scale on debt.
Networks scale on supply.
Who scales faster from here: neoclouds or open networks?

Two of Akash Ambassadors, @chennethelius and @yash_t_sanghvi, met over a coffee chat before orientation. Now they're building together every week 🤝
Their project: an open-source dashboard that uses Akash's on-chain marketplace data to show GPU provider competition, capacity, and the bidding behind rental prices.
It's early and they'd love feedback 👇

Hackathons are great avenues for developer product builders to get valuable feedback — a major input to improving Akash console came from understanding the body language of users while using the product for the first time.
Nonverbal feedback is significantly more valuable than other forms IMO.
SF Tech Week was amazing!
we brought together some incredible builders for a day of hacking on cyber defense, one of the most critical challenges as AI becomes more capable and autonomous
and the projects? some seriously cool stuff:
🛡️ an agent that catches breaking API changes and auto-patches affected code.
🔎 one that queries 19 million auth logs in plain English to hunt threats.
👁️ AI that detects and redacts leaked secrets in screen recordings.
none of this would've been complete without our incredible mentors and judges @gregosuri @benjaminshafii @henryhengzj @pedroslopez @DaghanAltas @BryceNeil__ and more.

Compute is concentrating. Open supply spreads it out.
GPU rents are climbing, open models keep getting bigger, and capacity sits with fewer players, with even Jensen calling out the reliance on one or two buyers.

Hackathons are some of the best feedback loops in the ecosystem. Novel use cases get built on Akash, and new users hit the marketplace for the first time.
Watching someone use it cold is the most direct UI/UX feedback there is, and it informs how the end product gets refined.

2026☺️,Shanghai: Supporting the construction of international data centers, underpinning the compute service industry and related cross-border digital services. This is very suitable for @solana to legally enter China with @akashnet .❤️ $AKT 🤝 $SOL 🤝 $ETH
We put Solana on the big screen because that’s the big heart Solana has for the Chinese community, and that’s the warm welcome we are so thankful to feel from the Chinese community.
Due to the publicity, event registrations quadrupled overnight, far exceeding the event cap we had registered with local authorities, and we had no way to prevent people from overwhelming the venue.
So, in order to comply with local requirements, we are going to postpone this event for when we can better accommodate the breadth and scale of our community.
Apologies to everyone who came from near and far to come be part of Solana in Shanghai.
See you soon!
Perfectly solves the risk.

China maintains a strict ban on cryptocurrencies.
This policy environment directly explains the abrupt disruption of the @Solana Accelerate China 2026 event in Shanghai, where law enforcement officers were present, attendees were blocked for over an hour, and organizers postponed the morning agenda citing “venue logistics.”
I did not know about the enforcement agency until this morning.
When I saw the ads - I said maybe they are promoting the tech
When I saw the 3-4 roadshow mentioned- I tell myself they must be promoting tech
I said this yesterday in our Spaces without knowing the incident.
1/ If you are promoting an approved accelerator, bring experts to China, invest into China. This is good. Maybe you can have similar name with your foundation.
2/ For myself, I try my best to also behave as a speaker on the stage. Promote coins are a no-no. Talk about trends, tech and opinions mainly. Pushing coins on stage can be a liability too.

I once discussed this issue with @akashalpha_ . In China, you can't talk about cryptocurrency, at least not at offline events. The narrative needs to be reconstructed and redesigned.

However, @akashnet is well-suited for activities in Asia and China. Asia is now very welcoming to the compute and energy narrative.

It's really no surprise that AkashML is seeing increases in demand for their token factory running on @akashnet GPUs.
The $AKT marketplace is consistently cooking up new upgrades and tweaks.
Good. I think we may even be early. The compute frontier is still an open race!

AkashML now averages 26M requests a week, double the 13M it averaged from mid-July to early August.
260M requests in three months, served on Akash GPUs.
As open models close in on the frontier and agents take on more work, demand keeps climbing.
