Ossoff: Now maybe you saw Trump's so desperate he's begging Putin for diesel. But listen to this, at the very same time, the White House is brokering the sale of billions in Russian energy assets to people who fund the Trump family and the Trump campaign. We're talking oil fields, refineries, gas stations all over the world to be sold to the first family's cronies in a deal brokered and backed by the U.S. government… Amidst a global energy crisis, the president's son-in-law and the president's business partner are brokering the sale of Russian oil fields to the first family's friends. The same friends who have poured hundreds of millions of dollars into Trump family businesses. And then there's Marco Rubio committing $1.6 billion of your money to back the Trump boys' mining interests in Kazakhstan. Did you hear about that? Pete Hegseth steering hundreds of millions of Pentagon dollars to back Don Jr.'s magnet investment. Venezuelan oil money turning up in Qatari bank accounts. Because, see, they are literally the elites they pretend to hate. And here's the bottom line: If you're involved in any of this, next year you'll be raising your right hand and swearing to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God, in front of the United States Congress.

Corruption that is simply breathtaking
NEW: Trump's DHS used a no-bid loophole for almost 2/3 of its contract funds this year. In 2024, it was less than 1%.

Another way the current administration is trapped in the ZERO-SUM FALLACY: The H-1B visa situation. + You are NOT taking a job from a citizen, rather creating jobs by increasing overal economic output. Plus these people (even vegetarians) SPEND locally. + The US has long been benefiting from other countries' brain drain; without it its edge wd collapse. Tesla, Von Braun, von Neumann, Fermi & Einstein did NOT each take the job of a citizen. + It the problem is anti-Indian racism, say it, don't play games.

Some folks are missing @PeterSchiff’s point: ALL government spending is paid for by citizens, through taxes, inflation, interest, AND debt (deferred tax). The Big Beautiful Bill increased spending by $100’s of billions over the next few years, so it increased what YOU MUST PAY.

I’m tired of hearing Republicans who voted for the Big Beautiful Bill take credit for cutting taxes. They did not. That bill made the federal government bigger and more expensive than ever. The public will bear that burden, which will more than offset those fake tax cuts.

I know that at a certain point it makes me sound naive, but I think we should be clear that a president announcing a ceasefire signed by two warring countries that doesn't actually exist is and should be the sort of thing that gets him swiftly removed from office.

They have withdrawn 3 connected papers “solving” a case of the Hodge conjecture. One of them had a sign error that invalidated the argument, and with it the other two. The subscription models can easily find that error. So they rushed to put out a partial result on a Millennium problem without even checking it twice. That’s the level of care, the seriousness, with which mathematics was approached here. LLMs are an amazing tool for doing math. But using them like this is just irresponsible. Also, they have already benchmarked these models on proving big theorems. I’d love to hear what investors think about all of this.

Mathematicians aren't pissed because they're jelly or threatened. It's because shotgunning 700 "proofs" with opaque processes, no prompts or citation trails doesn't actually advance mathematics in any meaningful way. Who tf you think now has to work through all this mathslop?

Put another way, consumer prices would've DECLINED the past two years without the tariffs. Brutal.
New from @NewYorkFed: Trump's 2025-26 tariffs contributed 2.9 percentage points to US goods price inflation, via higher prices for imports AND domestic goods. Without the tariffs, "goods prices would have fallen slightly." 😯

Tariffs were supposed to “fix” the trade deficit. Instead, the U.S. trade deficit jumped 13.7% in August to $105.6B as imports hit a record $420.8B. But here’s the bigger point: a trade deficit is not a scoreboard showing America “losing.” Many of those imports are capital goods, semiconductors, machinery, and inputs Americans use to invest and produce. It’s not a zero-sum game. Stop trying to centrally plan trade flows. End tariffs. Lower barriers. Let Americans buy and sell freely. 👀 bea.gov/data/intl-trade-inve…

Bessent you idiot who the fuck are you fooling? Under Trump THESE NUMBERS HAVE DECLINED.
Under @POTUS, the United States is showing the world what real economic growth looks like. With just around 4% of the world’s population, we produce 26% of global nominal GDP. Our firms lead the G20 in productivity. And more than 60 of the world’s 100 most valuable companies are American. Two hundred and fifty years after America’s founding, our best days are the ones we are still building.

“MAGA,” whatever that even means now, demands that you lie to them. Say anything truthful about outcomes, no matter how constructive, and they get angry, call you a doomer. Never seen anything like it. They demand dishonesty. A delusion bubble.

Seems like you're omitting something...
I expected the Trump tariffs to be a disaster. I'm puzzled by what I'm not seeing. They don't seem to have harmed the US economy in any way I can notice with my eyeballs or in the statistics. Business activity is booming, unemployment seems to be low, household consumption is up, stock market seems to be doing fine. Is my whole model of trade and economics broken? How is he getting away with this?

Actually, come to think about it, academia is populated with wimps & gamma males good at taking tests but crippled with a total absence of imagination.
If you are good at scoring on IQ tests, but not particularly imaginative, AI is in the process of making you obsolete.

Carl Jung once said that the strongest passion in humans is not hunger, sex or power, although these are quite strong; the very strongest passion is laziness. The longer I study human beings, the more I am inclined to agree. Laziness is the strongest passion.
