It’s curious, why are Andy Burnham and Sir Lord Sadiq Khan so scared of a question or two from the @newjournal? As covered before, the Labour campaign in Holborn & St Pancras has brought all their ‘big hitters’ to Camden for the by-election, but none of them have appeared to be willing to risk the local paper being there. Or much other press, tbh. For context, in my time at the CNJ, Blair, Brown, May, Johnson and of course Starmer granted us short interviews at events during their times as PM. You can say why should we be there… you’ll only ruin a nice event with a potentially awkward question, but if every event is only covered by Labour’s own social media then that’s just… well you know the word. You may also say the local press doesn’t matter in 2026, but when they don’t like something that gets printed… suddenly it does. Sagal Abdi-Wali has given us two interviews during the campaign. Good. But why don’t the senior Labour faces who have been here take a question or two too? Maybe because the local media is famously unpredictable (remember Liz Truss melting on local radio) compared to the national bubble, but they should have more confidence in themselves.
Amazing to speak to the @SHPcharity today with @andyburnham and @SadiqKhan. The work they do in preventing homelessness and supporting those who find themselves on the streets is vital. Together, we will offer everyone sleeping rough a bed by Christmas.

Leasehold law is too complicated for many to easily understand, which may be why it has endured, and crippled, for centuries. But grass roots groups like @FreeLeasehlders can explain it in plain English. Have a go!
Leaseholds in my view one of those things we don't talk about nearly enough in Westminster "We will introduce a bill before Christmas for long overdue leasehold reform... the days of you being squeezed for every penny are coming to an end"

Hi Jonathan, if you were unable to tap out in one of your journeys, then you may be charged as an incomplete fare. I'd recommend you registering your Contactless Card to your account or create one: contactless.tfl.gov.uk/ Your journey history should appear after 24 hours in which you can correct any incomplete journeys. Thanks, ^FM

Terribly sad news. Flick was one of the last great speech makers on Camden Council, and always generous with her time. I was once an hour into an election podcast interview before realising the recording had stopped. She, with no rancour, repeated it from the top. Lovely woman.
The best Mayor we never had. Some favourite pics of Flick Rea, who sadly passed away this weekend at 88. Kickstarting the project that saved the Prince of Wales Baths, boxing with her friend Jill Fraser, taking on a dalek and the night Flick and Roger Robinson became aldermen.

I’m very sad to have to say that my mother @FlickRea ,who served with distinction as the Liberal Democrat councillor for Fortune Green ward on Camden Council for 35 years until her retirement in 2021, died early this morning at the age of 88. She’d been ill for some time.

Only one chance in this lifetime… Like watching sunset at the beach from the most foreign seat in the cosmos, I couldn’t resist a cell phone video of Earthset. You can hear the shutter on the Nikon as @Astro_Christina is hammering away on 3-shot brackets and capturing those exceptional Earthset photos through the 400mm lens. @AstroVicGlover was in window 3 watching with @Astro_Jeremy next to him. I could barely see the Moon through the docking hatch window but the iPhone was the perfect size to catch the view…this is uncropped, uncut with 8x zoom which is quite comparable to the view of the human eye. Enjoy.

The full letter to the New Journal from Frank Dobson's wife Janet. 'Frank always said what he thought. If his views were as reported we would all certainly have heard them, probably more than once!'

In the UK, Millie Taplin was attending her first nightclub on her 18th birthday when she was handed a drink by a stranger. The stranger handed her a vodka lemonade “Try this” Millie took a sip. Seconds later, her face went numb, her fingers curled into claws and her entire body stiffened like she was possessed. She stayed fully conscious, trapped inside herself, writhing in agony and screaming in her head that she couldn’t move her body. Rushed to hospital, doctors said she was likely dosed with two unknown drugs: one to paralyse her, one to knock her out. Tests couldn’t identify the substance. Her mother later released footage as a warning: never accept a drink from stranger.

Who thinks young Harry should stand for London Mayor as an independent candidate for the Leasehold Reform Party and get further exposure to for his fight against the system ? #leasehold
Leasehold is killing the property market, especially in London. 60% of homes sold in the capital last year were leasehold flats - but they made up 90% of all losses, according to Hamptons.

If you're under 53 years old, you have never once been alive while a human was farther than 250 miles from Earth. Tonight, four astronauts are heading 252,000 miles out. That's a thousand times farther than any person has gone in your lifetime. The 250-mile ceiling is where the International Space Station floats. Every astronaut since December 1972 has been stuck in that zone. Spacewalks, science experiments, cool photos from orbit, sure. But nobody left the neighborhood. The last crew to go farther was Apollo 17. December 1972. Nixon was president. The internet didn't exist. Cell phones were 11 years away. The youngest member of that crew is now 90 years old. The farthest any human has ever been from Earth is 248,655 miles. The Apollo 13 crew set that number in 1970, and they didn't mean to. Their oxygen tank blew up, and the emergency route home took them farther out than anyone before or since. Tonight's crew will break that record on purpose. And the crew itself. Victor Glover becomes the first Black astronaut to leave Earth's neighborhood. Christina Koch becomes the first woman. Jeremy Hansen, a Canadian fighter pilot, becomes the first non-American to do so. When they come home, they'll slam into the atmosphere at 25,000 mph, faster than any human has ever traveled. The Moon's south pole has ice. Water ice, sitting in craters so deep that sunlight hasn't hit them in billions of years. A 2024 NASA study found way more of it than anyone expected. You can split water into hydrogen and oxygen, which gives you rocket fuel, breathable air, and drinking water, all made on the Moon instead of hauled up from Earth. George Sowers at Colorado School of Mines calculated that Moon-made fuel could shave $12 billion off a single trip to Mars. The Moon is a gas station on the road to Mars. NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman announced last week a $20 billion plan to build a permanent base at the South Pole over the next seven years, with landings every six months. China is developing its own lunar lander and spacesuit, aiming for a crewed landing by 2030. The Artemis program has burned through $93 billion so far, and the first actual surface landing is penciled in for 2028. There's a real question of who gets there first this time around. Harrison Schmitt walked on the Moon in December 1972 as part of Apollo 17. He's 90. Asked about it this week, he sounded pretty relaxed. "Mars is attainable," he said. "We're humans. That's what we've always done."
We're going around the Moon. Come watch with us. Artemis II's four-astronaut crew is lifting off from @NASAKennedy on an approximately 10-day mission that will bring us closer to living on the Moon and Mars. The launch window opens at 6:24pm ET (2224 UTC). xitter.cf/i/broadcasts/1jxXgeyMk…
