"the conceptualization of skill as a coordination pattern applied to a context that requires it has important implications for practice...it is unlikely that the 'grooving' of a technique through hundreds of thousands of reps...ultimately leads to truly skilled performers."

More upcoming work will show a fundamental sport psychology intervention may be based on reporting-bias-plus-low-power. 👀 We are surely at the point of crisis. We need to start doing things differently, and right now there are over 20 labs organizing to do just that. 21/

New preprint! 📢‼️ One of the most influential claims in sport science: External focus of attention is better than an internal focus for motor performance. Seven previous meta-analyses reported support for this claim. We found the opposite… sportrxiv.org/index.php/serv… A 🧵: 1/

This is an important piece; show to anyone you know considering some wondrous piece of technology as a shortcut to higher performance. There is a place for tech, but the evidence is at best weak right now & developing better evidence is hard work and takes time. Beware the hype!
In this preprint I address the concept of ‘transfer’ through the proliferation of cognitive training tools, methods and technologies that claim to have benefits to sport performance.
