So excited about this addition!!!
Loved having @UKFootball out to Brownstead Farm for a quick and rustic photoshoot.
And, that's our Zandon - Touch of Gray yearling filly (lovingly known as "Snacks!") lurking in the background of that first photo and probably cruising for treats.

Last aspect of this... If I ran the Jockey Club, I would announce a national breeder bonus program today. It would be geared towards smaller breeders and reward them for building the foal crop with depth and breadth.

This mare from our barn went to her new home yesterday which made 180 horses rehomed on the year. So many people to thank. It takes a village. 💛

40 broodmares age 16 and older are cataloged for the 2026 Keeneland November Sale, and 23 are in Book 5.
Visibility is protection.

With more than half in the final book, Mareworthy is working to keep these mares visible and help buyers plan for their retirement. We want their names to reach former owners, breeders, trainers, caregivers, and fans who may recognize a mare they remember and want to be part of her future.
We’re also making a commitment: Mareworthy will guarantee a retirement spot for any of the six cataloged mares age 18 and older after her foal is weaned in 2027. Interested buyers should reach out to discuss retirement planning before purchasing.
Read the article, look through the full watchlist, and share it with someone who might recognize a name. A connection made today could help a mare find a home that plans for her tomorrow.
Contact [email protected] if you recognize a mare, are considering purchasing her, or can help with her future.

Jessica has worked hard to hone her skills and is a tremendous ambassador for our sport.
The Parx Racing announcer has shown women they can carve out a place in the booth, but the treatment she endures may shape whether others decide it is worth following.

First of all, learn to speak English (your/you're) before casting stones.
@TKKuegler is open to meaningful, reciprocal conversation in spite of your flagrant disrespect toward him.
We all love the game and the horses. Why disparage someone trying to make it better?

A little something we’re happy to celebrate. 💜
Thank you to Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA) for including Mareworthy as a 2026 grantee!
We’re grateful for TCA’s support and for the opportunity to put these funds toward the horses and the work we do every day.
We’re proud to be part of the TCA community and appreciate everyone who helps make their support of Thoroughbred aftercare possible.

We’re continuing to celebrate all 109 Miss Mareworthy contestants in order from earliest birth date to most recent, and our next experienced lady has lived nearly every life a Thoroughbred mare can live.
Meet Teriyaki Twist, better known as Sushi, who is 26 years young and has been a racehorse, broodmare, riding horse, caretaker and life-changing best friend.
Born in Florida, Sushi spent five years racing her way along the East Coast. She made 47 starts at Calder, Tampa Bay Downs, Charles Town, Penn National and Philadelphia Park, winning seven times before retiring to a breeding farm in Pennsylvania.
Sushi then became a broodmare and produced two foals, including one who made it to the racetrack. Her next chapter took her under saddle again as a riding and show horse, but after her lease ended, she spent several years sitting at the breeding farm.
That was when Christi Schweninger discovered what she describes as the most endearing Craigslist ad she had ever read. Christi was already in the area trying other horses and decided on a whim that she had to meet Sushi. That whim changed the course of her life.
Christi had lost her childhood horse several years earlier and was hanging on to her love of horses by a thread. Then she met Sushi. They were two souls who needed each other, and Christi purchased her in 2014. Together they have shown, ridden on the beach, explored trails and moved to Kentucky. Sushi also inspired Christi to pursue a career in Thoroughbred reproduction and management.
Through every chapter, Sushi has remained a caretaker at heart. She spent eight years tirelessly watching over a half-blind senior pasture mate and can still be found standing guard while her friends sleep. She has never met a stranger, whether horse, human, cat or even fawn.
That caring nature was at the heart of Sushi’s answer about what makes her Mindful:
“I always make sure that my friends rest first before I even think about laying down for a nap.”
Today, Sushi is enjoying retirement on one of Kentucky’s finest Thoroughbred farms with her best friend, abundant grass, daily treats and every comfort she deserves.
Only one mare will ultimately be crowned Miss Mareworthy, but this pageant was created to put a name, a face and a story to the qualities Thoroughbred mares carry: Mindful, Authentic, Resilient and Expressive. Visibility is protection. A mare the world can see is a mare who doesn’t disappear.
Meet Sushi and read her full story:

I know @jmpaquette is a lightning rod around here on HRT. Let’s face it, she could turn into Tom Durkin and would still get shit on by many.
I’m not saying she’s everyone’s cup of tea (but I know there are some popular guys that I don’t care for), I’m not even saying you have to like her, but damn it, you better give her some respect. Show me another announcer this weekend that’s had to call over 250 horses through 26 races. She’s been on point both days and despite all the hate, always carries herself like the consummate professional.
So I’m gonna go out and give her the flowers she deserves cause nobody else will.
Great job today Jess, you nailed it.

Responsible broodmare retirement starts before there is a crisis. A conversation with a breeder today was a great reminder that when we learn where the gaps are in our current systems, the goal should not be blame. It should be asking, “How can we do better for the next
