For me it's about enjoying quality
this is why people are in shambles if you consider yourself a good programmer, you almost certainly enjoy AI, because you keep the creative/big brain responsibilities and tasks but lose the puzzle brain teasers that don't really matter the big brain architecture/design stuff is almost always what makes a 100xer a 100xer. never writing code (although 100xers excel at that too) dying on this hill

"Attention is all you need" is the most poetic title of our era With ever more nesting layers of LLMs controlling LLMs no-one is giving attention to what they build anymore and it shows

I'm starting to get more and more cold message from small game devs that want me to play their game on my tiny YT channel, which is a lot of fun This week I got the first one that was clearly fully AI vibecoded Coincidentally this was also by far the worst of the bunch 🤔

This is also possible with One Time Payment software I haven't done marketing or updates for years and people still buy (although declining obviously)
I haven’t made a video in two years and I still get 200-400k views a month. Insane how long the lifespan is on YouTube… at this point I have videos almost a decade old and still get views every day. It’s a really really hard platform to crack, but the payoff is huge.

Evidence indie hacking is the same as gamedev #100 And understandably the luck based one is most attractive
Funky thing about the game industry right now is that there's 2 ways for a game to become a hit: 1: Make a great game with good market fit and advertise it correctly (and/or) 2: Randomly get super lucky And its not always clear from an external perspective which games are which

If you're a solo bootstrapped developer you don't have to care about moats this moat that. That's larping VC startups

Vibe coding works only if you don't care about the details Kickstarter games go to die because they care too much about the details
when vibecoding started there should have been a bunch of dead kickstarters from 15 years ago that finally finished their video games, but that didn't happen, because shame and avoidance are still more powerful

I set out a questionnaire among c++ programmers on Linkedin, guess the 47.5% country

One fun thing about C++ is: no-one uses C++ voluntarily, you always have a restriction/demand forces you to go C++, which means you're doing interesting stuff

There is a reason he does this for VCs backed cos A parttime solo bootstrapped indie has 0 shot in this lottery
Nikita Bier charges $500 a minute for advice and only takes calls with VC-backed founders so we turned his whole consumer app playbook into a free, open-source AI skill for the rest of us describe your app to your agent and it tells you: - which rung of his ladder you're stuck on - which of your numbers you can't trust yet - what to fix first, then 2-3 big bets - one test with a yes/no threshold, set before you run it it's in tomorrow's newsletter 👇 ✨ tmaker.io ✨

Can't buy a house with aura This is the real world, not high school
You can raise $50M from Sequoia or a16z and still never have as much aura as the kid who put Minecraft inside Twitter

After 6 years I'm still genuinely shocked/surprised to hear people talk about my products in a positive way Somehow I can never integrate it's actually good and valuable for others I can't be the only one, that's why I share it

If I didn't need to worry about making money I'd be - making fun little thinky 2d games - doing random irl tech projects - creating videos about those - walking in nature

When the LLM spits out useful code: “I'm a genius!" When the LLM spits out garbage: "can't trust AI"

For ESL speakers: do you also notice that if some big account from your country that normally posts in English does a post or comment in your native language you immediately change your perception of them? It's way easier to pick up all micro-signals in their language choices Do English natives have this by default for all posts?

I finally figured out why I hate starting with one-shotted projects: I prefer additive building over subtractive building. I never thought about his because before LLMs only additive building was possible, except for forking existing projects It seems most people prefer having something in front, and then deciding what they want to change or remove. This is now possible, maybe even the default, with agents and vibecoding. Basically you become a manager, not sweating the details. BTW I don't even mean the code/architecture choices, of course that too, but I mean the actual UX/Logic/Text/Design choices. It took me a while to figure out why I dislike it, but any one shot from a vague (or even decently thought out) prompt forces the LLM to make 1000s of tiny and bigger decisions of everything you hadn't thought about. For me walking through these decisions while I encounter them is what makes building enjoyable, and allows me to build nice stuff. No real point, just some half finish thoughts.
