India's blanket ban on car modifications is stupid. Some of the greatest 'car countries' in the world, Japan, Germany and USA, have a thriving car modification culture - a culture that's not just good for enthusiasts, but also for the economy at large. But how have they managed this? By not banning, but by careful and thoughtful regulation. That's how you can keep roads safe while still allowing people to have fun. It's way better than drugs, tobacco and alcohol, which by the way, cause way more deaths than 'modified cars'. Just imagine the number of jobs a thriving car modification culture can create. And India is a country that needs millions and millions of jobs. One in two Indians is under 35 years of age! One of India's most progressive states - Kerala - has made a start. We need more of this! @CarToq's piece on this subject is now live. cartoq.com/car-life/car-modi…

'Writing is thinking. If you outsource writing, you're outsourcing your thinking.' And thinking is what most people hate doing. The risk is real.

This!
I am probably the only one around here, but I seriously do not think that a 360 degree camera is that important that it becomes a deal breaker. Same for ADAS. The basic mechanicals need to be sorted on priority.

Moments ago, I congratulated Mr. Francisco Hindalgo on the Duster Hybrid's outstanding price. I told him that Renault's done very well to bring the post localized price to the Duster Hybrid even before localization. He said something that stuck, "Localization is my problem, not the customer's problem". Now, if all automakers were to think and act this way, we'd see some really well priced cars in India. @CarToq @RenaultIndia

And the Renault Duster Hybrid does 0-100 Kph in 9.61 seconds. 80-120 in 11.1 seconds, and it's faster than the Seltos and Creta diesels. This is going to be blisteringly quick. Mileage? 29 Kmpl. 50 liter petrol tank. Full tank claimed range? 1,400 Kms. Class leading combined outputs of 160 PS-208 Nm. Surprise bit: FDD (frequency dependent damping) suspension comes to a Renault through the Duster Hybrid. The Duster Hybrid will let you have your cake, and eat it too! @CarToq @RenaultIndia

V Vikraman, head of engineering at Renault, says that the RGMP platform that the Duster Hybrid is based on, is engineered in India, for India. What does into the hybrid powertrain? 1.8 liter 4 cylinder 110 PS petrol engine running the Atkinson cycle, with a whopping 41 percent thermal efficiency. Well, that's as good as the best two stroke marine diesels. Biggest 1.4 kWh battery in segment, which is more than double the size of competitors. You can use the Duster Hybrid as an electric car across 80 percent of city driving. There's a high voltage starter generator that handles gearshifting through a synchro-less shufter. It's racing tech coming to the mass market, says Mr. Vikraman. Then there's the dedicated hybrid transmission. 98 percent transmission efficiency at the wheels. This gives the Duster six drive modes but the driver will not have to figure anything. The car will shift across these modes seamlessly. @CarToq @RenaultIndia
