The Iranian diplomatists don’t seem to understand coercive diplomacy. A cost imposition strategy can only work if the costs imposed as commensurate with the ask. Either lower the ask or increase the pressure. The present halfway house will not work.

Told @CNN that Pezeshkian was facing criticism from hard-liners for attending the UNGA in New York. His critics expressed concern that if he signaled any intention to compromise to the outside world, this would be interpreted as a sign of weakness and desperation and would therefore be counterproductive for #Iran, which wants to end the war on its own terms.

Remember when Trump pretended for like 3 weeks that the point of invading Venezuela was to free the Venezuelan people and restore democracy and a bunch of MAGA ahderents went around repeating that? Same thing for Iran.
Then Trump made clear these wars had nothing to do with freeing anyone so now they say: yeah, that's not our role!

So @SecScottBessent is stating that he will "shut down" all Iranian airlines on September 23. What he hasn't explained is how this advances U.S. national security.
What we know is that this is an attack on Iranian healthcare supply chains.
Over 60% of Iranian medical imports arrive by air. Of this total, around one-third are “medicaments containing hormones,” a category which includes insulin for treatment of diabetes and certain cancer treatments. Just over 10% are vaccines, both for human and veterinarian use. Another 6% includes blood products used to treat infections or support clotting.
Bessent's move threatens the health of ordinary Iranians. To what end?

Die Linke finished first in Berlin's state election today (~25%) with a 13-point surge, led by Elif Eralp, a 45-year-old lawyer of Turkish origin.
If she becomes governing mayor, she'd be Berlin's first Turkish-origin mayor, Germany's first female state leader with a migration background, and the first Linke politician to lead the capital.
Her campaign was compared to New York mayor Zohran Mamdani's. Her team actually exchanged ideas with Mamdani's campaign. Media have called her "Berlin's Mamdani."
Housing drove the vote.
85% of Berliners rent and advertised rents have doubled since 2014.
Her central promise is implementing the 2021 referendum to take ~240,000 private apartments into public ownership.
Coalition talks will determine whether she actually governs — a Linke-Greens-SPD bloc or a CDU-Greens-SPD coalition are both mathematically possible.
