I've just signed a petition calling for a ban on octopus farming and to prevent the expansion of carnivorous aquaculture. Farming octopuses is both cruel and harmful for the environment. They belong in the open ocean. bit.ly/3TCpDM8 #KeepThemWild

The welfare and well-being of captive lions slaughtered for the lion bone trade cannot be ignored. Setting a quota is not merely an administrative exercise. The consequences for captive lions matter.

JASIRA — REST IN POWER
We are deeply saddened by the loss of Jasira of the Rongai Breakaway pride.
Jasira was the daughter of Netira, the Rongai pride’s lead hunter, and King Olobor of the Black Rock Boys. Tragically, Netira also lost her life to injuries sustained while hunting buffalo. Losing both mother and daughter in such circumstances makes this goodbye especially painful.
Jasira was euthanized today following a veterinary examination that revealed a complete fracture of her lumbar spine—the bones of her lower back.
According to the field report, her injuries were caused by a buffalo encounter. A wound on her leg suggested she had likely been tossed into the air, with the findings strongly suggesting she was injured while hunting.
The initial intention was to assess her condition and provide treatment. Sadly, her injuries proved far more severe than expected. The attending veterinarian made the difficult decision to euthanize her to spare her further suffering.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the veterinary team and everyone who responded to help her.
Rest peacefully, Jasira. You will be remembered with love.

"An estimated 8,000 lions are held in captivity in South Africa in about 350 places, ranging from zoos to tourism venues where people can interact up close with the big cats. Lions are also bred for live trade, trade in body parts and captive hunts.
Along with other predators, captive lions are held in conditions that vary from small enclosures of 250 square metres to larger enclosures of 5,000 square metres with more naturalistic features. Cubs, however, are often kept in crates or small pens."

#sapsHAWKS [FIVE SUSPECTS ARRESTED IN R500,000 PANGOLIN TRADE STING OPERATION IN WHITE RIVER]
The #Hawks in Mpumalanga have arrested five suspects aged between 34 and 58 following a sting operation that foiled an alleged attempt to sell a live pangolin for R500,000 in White River.
On Tuesday, 20 October 2026, at approximately 09:55, members of the Hawks’ Nelspruit Serious Organised Crime Investigation (SOCI), acting on information received from a source, conducted a sting operation at a scrap metal business in Rockeys Drift, White River, where the suspects allegedly intended to sell the pangolin.
The operation was conducted in collaboration with the White River K9 Unit, resulting in the arrest of five suspects. Two vehicles, a Volkswagen Polo and a Toyota Etios, were seized and handed over to the Nelspruit Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VCIU) for further investigation.
The pangolin was also seized alive and handed over to the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA). The animal was subsequently taken to a veterinarian for treatment and care.
The suspects are expected to appear before the White River Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, facing a charge of conveyance of a live wild animal.
The Hawks acting Provincial Head in Mpumalanga, Brigadier Bruce Davenport said the Hawks remain committed to working with relevant law enforcement agencies and conservation authorities to combat wildlife-related crimes and dismantle criminal networks involved in the illegal trade of #ProtectedSpecies.
