#OnThisDay On Sunday, April 27, 1980, a passenger aircraft operated by Thai Airways Company (now Thai Airways International) crashed in Khlong Si Subdistrict, Khlong Luang District, Pathum Thani Province. Many passengers lost their lives. Among the deceased were five revered forest monks. All five masters of the forest meditation tradition had been invited by the Royal Household Bureau in Bangkok. They gathered in Udon Thani Province to board the plane, as their disciples wished to arrange convenient and swift travel. The forest monks assembled at Udon Thani Airport to board Thai Airways flight TG 231 from Udon Thani to Bangkok. The aircraft was a twin-propeller plane, model HS 748, code HS-TSB. It departed Udon Thani Airport bound for Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok. As the plane approached Rangsit Field, Village No. 4, Khlong Si Subdistrict, Khlong Luang District, Pathum Thani Province—about 20 kilometers from its destination—it began to descend in preparation for landing at Don Mueang. However, the aircraft encountered a severe storm and heavy rainfall and subsequently crashed in Rangsit Field. Many passengers perished, including all five monks. The tragic loss plunged the monastic community, fellow practitioners, disciples, and Buddhist faithful into deep mourning. Losing five eminent teachers of the Luang Pu Mun Phurithatto forest meditation lineage at once was considered one of the greatest losses for the Thai Sangha in the old days of Thailand. facebook.com/share/p/1Aokjde… – at Bowon Niwet, Thailand
