Saying you read everything Lewis wrote and everything he *read* is like when Mark Driscoll used to say he read a book a day.
Greta Gerwig on preparing to write Narnia: The Magician's Nephew: "I read or re-read everything Lewis wrote. Then I tried to read everything he read." She also retraced C.S. Lewis's life and steps in Belfast, Cambridge, and Oxford, hoping to better understand the author so that "my instincts would align with his”. Full report: narniaweb.com/2026/10/greta-…

The response to this and @BMcGrewvy’s other posts have been completely unhinged. I thought I understood the extent of anti-human sentiment but I was very, very wrong. Even taking this position earns deranged responses.
If a predatory animal attacks a harmless human, do we root for the animal or the human? Not everyone holds that answer to be self-evident, as witnessed in the discourse around last weekend's Yorkshire Wildlife Park tragedy in the United Kingdom. Details remain scarce about the delusional young man who vaulted into the enclosure with a Siberian tiger and was swiftly mauled to death. Whoever he was, the Internet has declared the gene pool well rid of him. By all accounts, the horrific scene unfolded too fast for park rangers on site to make a life-saving intervention. In the haze of early reports, some people (including myself) mistakenly thought there may have been an opportunity missed to intervene with a real gun. ✍️ Bethel McGrew Article | spectator.com/article/is-a-t…

Call me old-fashioned, but I still believe the only legitimate government is one presided over by an emperor descended by blood from the sun goddess Amaterasu and protected from foreign barbarians by the Japanese Imperial Army, and that the Dutch are fit only to be slaves.

Intelligence must draw on memory. The mind must not simply compile data — as an algorithm now does more quickly than we can — but recall lived experiences, which contain depths of meaning that only the human soul can recognize, and connect more deeply with the goodness of these experiences. Everything that is good begins “with the Spirit” and thus possesses a breath, a dynamism and a sense of communion that, once experienced, are engraved upon the heart. vatican.va/content/leo-xiv/e…

In all seriousness, what this pope is putting out on AI is light years ahead of anything I’ve seen from protestants.
In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

as opposed to people living in their unused cars.
The richest man on planet Earth is moaning about the declining number of births. Speaking for many Americans, I think with the cost of groceries and housing so high (some people living in their used cars), birth control must seem like a sacrament.

It says a lot about the state of things that I can’t post “two of these three things were great” because it’s not specific enough

I’m not really worried about AI itself, but I am quite concerned about our ability to use it to exponentially magnify our own stupidity
SITUATION DETECTED: Anthropic has set up a wet lab in the San Francisco Bay Area for physical biology work. It wants to unlock treatments for rare diseases, and its research has now gone beyond in silico evaluations, per Reuters.

How will we ever stop rogue AI? Based on the guys who made it, just put it in a normal social situation, I guess.

Marvel's Wolverine's slick and satisfying combat wears thin well before its conclusion, so much so that even its strong character work can't quite save it from being anything more than okay. Our review: bit.ly/46cRK7x

We want so badly to succeed but what we have been called to is faithfulness. And I think that faithfulness is often the willingness to embrace failure in hope.

Sometimes I wonder whether I’m being too hard on myself. When that happens, it’s good to step back, take a deep breath, and remember that I’m also the worst person I know. It helps!
