📢New paper by @xianghao_zhan et al.!
We used an AI model to eliminate some of the noise measured by instrumented mouthguards: "peak kinematics after denoising were more accurate"
Such models will help improve the quality of our head impact datasets! 👀

A great piece to understand limitations of head impact sensors:
🗝️Triggering mechanisms and processing algorithms are far from perfect.
🗝️Head impact measures are estimations of true exposure and should always be interpreted with caution.

With the growing use of iMGs across sports, this piece explores the technical constraints of the devices for measuring head acceleration events and considerations for the interpretation of iMG data...

Here is the first research paper (of many, I expect) describing head accelerations (HAEs) in elite rugby players, by @JToobyResearch . It describes incidence (HAEs per player per hour) and propensity (% of contact events that cause HAEs): link.springer.com/article/10…

Replying to @Carnegie_Sport
@Carnegie_Sport and @WorldRugby are looking for a motivated individual to undertake a fully funded PhD to quantify contact load in professional rugby union.

For the 1st time ever,
you’re gonna hear from the players on concussion…
The concussion roundtable will be out on @SkySports on demand tomorrow.
We don’t need to sanitise the game. Instead, let’s have open conversations on how to best care for the athletes who give their all.
James Tooby retweeted
"Between 2011 to 2015 the focus was very much on how we identify, manage and treat concussion."
"From 2015 onwards it's shifted towards prevention."
A fascinating conversation with @Scienceofsport on the studies held into identifying concussion prevention 🧠

“I’ve worn one every training session and every game since they’ve come in. I get annoyed that other lads choose not to.”
Danny care says it’s “ridiculous” only 20% of Prem players are using the instrumented mouthguard for collating data to better protect them & future players.

We’re looking for a Research Officer / Project Coordinator to join our team at @CARR_LBU @Carnegie_Sport @leedsbeckett on a 2-yr fixed term contract.
Lots of exciting project within rugby and sports medicine to support.

I was asked once before about what the point of those monitor mouth guards was, and this study explains it pretty well.
