"La disparition progressive des temps (subjonctif, passé simple, imparfait, formes composées du futur, participe passé…) donne lieu à une pensée au présent, limitée à l’instant, incapable de projections dans le temps.
La généralisation du tutoiement, la disparition des majuscules et de la ponctuation sont autant de coups mortels portés à la subtilité de l’expression.
Supprimer le mot «mademoiselle» est non seulement renoncer à l’esthétique d’un mot, mais également promouvoir l’idée qu’entre une petite fille et une femme il n’y a rien.
Moins de mots et moins de verbes conjugués c’est moins de capacités à exprimer les émotions et moins de possibilité d’élaborer une pensée.
Des études ont montré qu’une partie de la violence dans la sphère publique et privée provient directement de l’incapacité à mettre des mots sur les émotions.
Sans mot pour construire un raisonnement, la pensée complexe chère à Edgar Morin est entravée, rendue impossible.
Plus le langage est pauvre, moins la pensée existe.
L’histoire est riche d’exemples et les écrits sont nombreux de Georges Orwell dans « 1984 » à Ray Bradbury dans « Fahrenheit 451 » qui ont relaté comment les dictatures de toutes obédiences entravaient la pensée en réduisant et tordant le nombre et le sens des mots.
Il n’y a pas de pensée critique sans pensée. Et il n’y a pas de pensée sans mots.
Comment construire une pensée hypothético-déductive sans maîtrise du conditionnel ? Comment envisager l’avenir sans conjugaison au futur ? Comment appréhender une temporalité, une succession d’éléments dans le temps, qu’ils soient passés ou à venir, ainsi que leur durée relative, sans une langue qui fait la différence entre ce qui aurait pu être, ce qui a été, ce qui est, ce qui pourrait advenir, et ce qui sera après que ce qui pourrait advenir soit advenu ? Si un cri de ralliement devait se faire entendre aujourd’hui, ce serait celui, adressé aux parents et aux enseignants : faites parler, lire et écrire vos enfants, vos élèves, vos étudiants.
Enseignez et pratiquez la langue dans ses formes les plus variées, même si elle semble compliquée, surtout si elle est compliquée. Parce que dans cet effort se trouve la liberté. Ceux qui expliquent à longueur de temps qu’il faut simplifier l’orthographe, purger la langue de ses «défauts», abolir les genres, les temps, les nuances, tout ce qui crée de la complexité sont les fossoyeurs de l’esprit humain. Il n’est pas de liberté sans exigences. Il n’est pas de beauté sans la pensée de la beauté."

🔹 Le triomphe de l'atome : L'Allemagne lâche du lest sur le nucléaire. L'électricité atomique est reconnue pour produire l'hydrogène "bas carbone" indispensable aux futurs e-fuels automobiles.
🛑 L'Allemagne sauve son génie mécanique, la France protège son marché populaire et impose son modèle électrique. L'Europe 🇪🇺 passe enfin à un pragmatisme de survie : la transition écologique se fera, mais pas au prix d'un suicide géopolitique.

An important study that deserves to be shared as widely as possible within the English-speaking world.
Last night, our friends at the *Militarnyi* portal published an English-language article containing a technical analysis of the onboard computer from a Russian jet-powered drone—the "Geran-4."
Of the 105 components identified, 80 come from American companies; Texas Instruments alone (including components from National Semiconductor, which was acquired by TI in 2011) accounts for 58.1% of the total.
In short: this points to a systemic reliance on Western electronics in this Russian attack drone.
For this reason, we have created a separate English-language "quote tweet" with commentary, in which we have tagged @TXInstruments directly.

Regardless of the current policy of the White House, the United States is much more than just a single administration or a single president. Vasili Mitrokhin (1922-2004), a Soviet KGB archivist who secretly copied and compiled thousands of classified intelligence files during the Cold War...
Every evening between 1972 and 1984, a quiet, bespectacled archivist named Vasili Mitrokhin walked out of the KGB’s foreign intelligence headquarters in Moscow with crumpled slips of paper tucked into the soles of his shoes. Past armed guards, metal detectors, and internal security checkpoints, the fifty-something bureaucrat flashed his pass and stepped out into the Moscow cold. Under his arm sat no classified briefcase; in his pockets lay nothing suspicious. But stuffed into his socks and underwear were minute, handwritten notes detailing the Soviet Union's deepest global operations: assassination directives, illegal networks, foreign political bribes, and clandestine weapons caches buried across NATO territory. For over a decade, while the most paranoid surveillance state on earth hunted Western moles, an unassuming clerk was methodically stealing the entire KGB archive from the inside out.
Mitrokhin had spent his early career as an undercover operative in the Middle East before an ideological clash saw him sidelined to the archive section of the First Chief Directorate. Disillusioned by Nikita Khrushchev’s 1956 denunciation of Stalin’s terror and permanently radicalized by the brutal 1968 invasion of Czechoslovakia, Mitrokhin viewed the Soviet apparatus as a criminal conspiracy against humanity. In 1972, fate handed him the keys to the kingdom: the KGB began transferring its vast foreign intelligence archives from the cellars of the Lubyanka to a new, sprawling complex at Yasenevo. Mitrokhin was assigned the monumental task of cataloging, verifying, and sealing roughly three hundred thousand secret files.
Working entirely alone in windowless vaults, surrounded by decades of operational espionage, Mitrokhin began his silent counter-revolution. Because photocopying machines were strictly guarded and heavily audited, he copied files by hand onto scraps of paper, transcribing names, operational code words, dead-drop locations, and cipher systems in microscopic handwriting. At the end of each workday, he concealed the stolen notes on his body and walked through the security checkpoints without raising suspicion.
Back at his modest family dacha outside Moscow, Mitrokhin spent his nights transcribing the scribbles onto an ordinary typewriter. He packed the carbon copies and typed sheets into steel milk churns, tin trunks, and aluminum containers, sealing them with tar paper. Late at night, beneath the floorboards of his dacha and under the flowerbeds of his garden, he dug deep pits and buried the metal containers, carefully tamping down the soil so not even his wife suspected what lay below. By the time he retired in 1984, Mitrokhin had assembled over twenty-five thousand pages of KGB history, creating the single largest unauthorized intelligence breach in Soviet history.
When the Soviet Union collapsed in late 1991, Mitrokhin knew his hour had arrived. In early 1992, carrying a sample of handwritten notes hidden in his luggage, he boarded a train to the newly independent Baltic states. In Estonia, he walked into the United States Embassy in Tallinn offering to trade his secret archive for political asylum; the CIA officer on duty dismissed him as a crank peddling forged documents and turned him away. Undeterred, Mitrokhin traveled to Riga, Latvia, and walked into the British Embassy. There, an MI6 officer took one look at the authentic operational codes, poured Mitrokhin a cup of tea, and recognized the intelligence discovery of the century.
Within months, British intelligence exfiltrated Mitrokhin and his family to the United Kingdom. Soon after, under the noses of Russian security forces, MI6 operatives quietly entered his Moscow dacha, pried up the floorboards, and dug up six heavy milk churns and trunks packed with thousands of classified pages.

You know, I kept quiet because everyone kept blasting my ear about the Baltics for months 🙄 while largely ignoring the southeastern flank.
Yes, the Baltics are vulnerable. But they are also embedded in an increasingly integrated Nordic-Baltic security architecture and backed by NATO. Going after them is an enormous gamble.
Bulgaria presents a different kind of vulnerability.
Russia has spent DECADES cultivating political, cultural, religious and institutional influence there. That investment was never random.
There is an ideological dimension too - Medieval Bulgaria sits at the root of the Slavic Orthodox literary tradition Russia later absorbed and claimed as part of its own civilizational inheritance: Cyrillic literacy, Church Slavonic culture and a profoundly important strand of Slavic Orthodoxy developed and spread through the Bulgarian medieval state. That heritage matters enormously to a regime obsessed with historical legitimacy.
And then there is the obvious geopolitical prize: the Black Sea.
Bulgaria gives you coastline, ports, proximity to Ukraine and Turkey, and access to NATO’s southeastern flank. Moscow does not need to attack the strongest point - it probes where institutions, cohesion and political will are weakest.
That is why I keep looking south while everyone else was looking north.

🇱🇻🇧🇾 NEW: Latvian security services are investigating a group claiming responsibility for the armed incident on the Belarusian border.
The group, calling itself Melnie rusi (“Black Rus”), has also threatened further sabotage against Belarus’s neighbours.
• On 5–6 October, armed masked men reportedly attempted to force around 20 migrants across Latvia’s border and damaged surveillance infrastructure.
• Latvia’s State Security Service (VDD) opened criminal proceedings on 9 October.
• The group has since claimed responsibility and threatened further operations.
NATO StratCom COE Director Jānis Sārts assessed the claims as an information operation linked to Belarusian and Russian security services.
The group's responsibility and alleged intelligence links remain unverified.
