Yep. I am moving back to Japan mid next year…tax is not the sole reason, but it’s a huge contributor. Absolutely insane government policy that is totally destructive, counter-productive, and ideologically (not rationally) driven.
Good luck with Labor Australia 🇦🇺
Australia wins the award: highest effective CGT in the world. 🏆🥇A disaster for the Australian economy. Tax the winners at full freight, leave the losers with the investor, and the real rate on productive capital jumps to 65–80%. No serious economy does this. Capital is mobile. Founders and investors will leave.
What a pair of economic vandals @AlboMP & @JEChalmers are.
Great analysis, AI & Derek.

Good. It's working. Keep the pressure on the ALP to abandon the CGT changes except as they apply to existing residential investment properties.
Bet Chalmers and Albo thought the noise would die down by ramming their changes through, but they're wrong.

Fair go for first homebuyers?
Lure a whole cohort of FHB in at the market peak, do nothing to help tame inflation.
Rates rise three time and will possibly rise further.
Tax investment in any asset class much more heavily than it has been before making future investment much less favourable than past investment (younger people are much less likely to be investors).
Housing sentiment tanks and prices start falling and look set to fall for some time but FHB should get in now and potentially face negative equity?

The fact the PM met to procure donations from the son of a foreign money launderer should have substantially more coverage.
The subtext also raises questions about how much property in Australia has been acquired by money laundering schemes for foreigners and criminal groups.

Aspiration?
Most Australians don’t “aspire” to a 30% minimum tax on their investments once they’ve retired.
Or higher taxes on a portfolio they want to cash in for a deposit.
Or more tax on a business they’ve started up.
That’s what your party demonstrably stands for.
Labor is the party of aspiration, including the aspiration to get a better job. From next year, we'll ban noncompete clauses for anyone earning under $190,000. My speech to Labor's National Conference. #auspol
Why do I keep banging on about the CGT changes on shares and ETFs?
Because as a millennial, we’ve spent our entire adult lives watching the goalposts move.
Housing out of reach. Cost of living through the roof.
We were told to stop buying lattes. It was the avocado toast. Just work harder. Be responsible, invest for your future. So we did.
We invested in ETFs and shares, one of the very few accessible ways an ordinary PAYG worker could build wealth when property was already out of reach.
Investing became simple, low cost and accessible thanks to technology and apps. Millions of Australians started investing.
Now the rules are changing there too.
It feels like every time our generation finds one of the few ways to get ahead, someone decides that’s the next thing to tax more.
And somehow taxing gains on ETFs and shares more heavily is all packaged up and sold as the solution to housing affordability and intergenerational wealth… yet those who benefited under the old rules are grandfathered. 🙄🫠

That fake Albo has now gone and deleted his X post on Superannuation where I slammed him about 8 timex for his world’s worst capital gains tax.
Can’t even own his X posts! Please retweet.

Truly horrific tax rates and ill thought out. By the way... this post has now been deleted by Albo. Perhaps he was getting too much heat from it ! Screen shot captured though

Anthony Albanese deleted this post because people in the comments were pointing out that the head of Visy in the top right is HIS BILLIONAIRE DONOR, Zionist Anthony Pratt, and asking if Pratt is who advised him to send $500M of Australian Super to India.

Yep the Greens doubled down on the most idiotic undemocratic tax hike in history and now they are complaining about the result. Labor last, Greens second last, the only way to get the country back on track.

Here's a simple example of how somebody on low income - perhaps a student or a stay at home parent - can go from a tax rate of zero to 60% under the new CGT when they sell any shares.
This person has put $100 each in three shares, with the outcomes below. Their total real gain is $30. Under the current system that gain is tax free if they're under the tax-free threshold. From July 2027, they would pay $18 in tax, which confiscates 60% of their gain.
This is completely against the spirit of our progressive tax system. Can anybody defend this with something better than "young people don't own shares?"

I look forward to better days when being productive is rewarded - until then, my love of building homes just isn’t worth it.

Theft from aspirational Australians will be delivered in the budget next week. Young Aussie puts in $10k, compounds at 15% for 50 years → $10.84 million.
Inflation-indexed cost base: just $44k. Current CGT: $2.63M tax.
Labor’s new proposal: $5.23M tax.
They want to seize HALF your life’s work.
This isn’t tax reform — it’s theft from aspirational Australia.
Stop punishing success. #TaxRaid #AussieDreamKiller

This substantial debt load also comes with potential upside exposure to interest rate risk; and when added to the substantial challenges related to its construction, and its uncertain outlook for such a large facility (featuring 50 new food and beverage venues!)...
