On February 9, 1984, Tamil Nadu CM MGR held a press conference in Bengaluru. He publicly apologized to Kannada actor Dr. Rajkumar over the push (by some Tamil groups, which he had supported) to make the city a Union Territory. MGR called Rajkumar his brother, said he had no such intention, asked forgiveness, and kissed him on the cheek.

As a North Indian living in Bengaluru, it feels sad to see Kannada festivals like Ayudha Pooja and Dasara being overshadowed by Garba and Dandiya. There’s nothing wrong with celebrating other cultures, but we shouldn’t let the traditions of the land we call home fade away. Karnataka’s culture deserves love, respect and celebration too. ❤️💛

My hometown is a tier 2 city and i came for the festival. I was shocked to see culture change. Just 2-3 years ago, majority of ppl in my hometown don't even know about Garba or Dandiya. Now I could see it everywhere. I worry that our own culture will disappear soon 😢
