1. The wording is devious & malicious. @naomicfisher is well aware that her anecdotal evidence represents <1% of school students but uses the word “system” to present them as wide-spread, institutionalised cruelty. Pitting teachers & parents against one another.
Why won’t I just stay in my lane, stop talking about our school system and get on with treating mental health problems? Because every day I hear about practices in schools which cause distress - and I’m being asked to resolve the distress as if it, not the practice, is the problem. I’m being asked to be complicit in practices which are damaging to young people’s well-being. I’m being asked to tell young people that the problem is them, that they’re wrong to feel the way they do and with a bit of therapy they can go back to the unchanged system. I’m being asked to tell them that the system is right and they are wrong. What practices, you ask? Putting young people into isolation for haircuts, or nose piercings. Instant detentions for minor uniform transgressions. Young people who have struggled into school being greeted with a behaviour point because they were three minutes late, and then another behaviour point for not taking their coat off immediately. Children who have had a very difficult term ending it off with being excluded from the school trip due to poor attendance. I hear these stories from multiple families, all over the UK. There’s nothing wrong with people who feel distressed and anxious when they are in a system which creates distress and anxiety. Our children aren’t the problem, they are pointing out the problem.

It’s amazing how many “progressive” educators use this tactic on X. It’s almost as if they have no confidence in their ability to win an open debate so they have to silence opposing views. History tells us it’s usually the good guys who censor free speech, right? 🤔
Ah Educator Supe - I see that you blocked me, not to avoid seeing my posts, but so you can snipe at me with me being able to respond. I’m sure that’s the kind of behaviour that someone who has the moral high ground/superior argument would display…

‘Oracy in schools is incredibly important.’ ALSO: ‘Don’t expect students to contribute answers in your lessons - it’s detrimental to their mental health to be asked to speak in front of others publicly.’

Anyone believing Man Utd’s results & performances this season are down to the fact they haven’t got a back up left back & another striker are deluded.
No squad is perfect & has two top players for every position, especially one that’s underperformed & missed out on CL as much as Man Utd. Rashford/Cunha/Zirkzee/Mbeumo are better options than Man City have. City have a midfielder as 1st choice RB & the Lewis role is Dorgu at MU.

Is being so lazy and unfit that you get outrun by the referee something that you work on during training @ManUtd?
How Man Utd's midfield were outran by the referee against Spurs! 😮

Manchester United fans, please listen to Jamie’s breakdown of your team.
Jamie Carragher did some analysis on Monday Night Football tonight and they were really top. Firstly, he said Tielemans thrived under Unai Emery even without having pace because Emery coaches his team to be very compact. You can hardly open them up, hence, you can’t outrun them because they close you up quickly. I noticed this because if you look at Kamara also, he’s not quick at all, but he’s a monster. Secondly, he analysed how Manchester United players are never ready, especially for the second balls. Tottenham were winning everything. The standing posture of the United players was so poor, they weren’t ready for balls. He added that Manchester United didn’t even fight, they were just casual and lackadaisical in summary.

To be fair, on reflection, Liverpool can just say they have irrefutable evidence they won the game.

On the plus side for Liverpool, at least they aren't facing relegation as a result of a decade of systematic breaches of Premier League rules

Crazy how Man United have all these world-class players who are definitely good enough to compete for titles, but who've been let down 13 years in a row by having the wrong manager in charge. What are the chances?

Man United were 1-0 up at home against the worst team in the league, who only have 10 men on the field... but every single one of their fans KNEW they were gonna concede that goal

If the response to a student throwing a chair is to ask whether the teacher made the lesson engaging enough, I'd like to know how boring a faculty meeting has to get before the same logic applies.

As @tombennett71 says, students don’t want a tall friend. They want a teacher.
Unpopular opinion: I don't go out of my way to build relationships with students. I intentionally maintain professional distance. I've found that when I focus on teaching well, maintaining boundaries, and creating a productive classroom environment, the relationships take care of themselves.

NEW POST on this
Professors of education in England are *furious* that England did relatively well in PISA and that should tell policymakers everything they need to know about education professors.

I invite anyone who says nonsense like this to take all the toughest classes and show us all how it’s done.

To quote a temporary head brought in to turn the school around ‘ You’ve all been to teacher training college. Teach properly and they will behave’.
