I have blanked out the name of the pre-school here to try and avoid a massive pile on, but I’d be interested to know what you think about their updated lunchbox guidelines and the bits of paper they are sending home for ‘contraventions’ of the rules.
Is it really Ofsted pressuring EYFS settings to ban white bread as the doughy texture after chewing can be a choking hazard as well as the rule about cutting raisins in half, amongst other requests mentioned. To be honest, this would drive me a bit potty if I had still had kids at that age.

We need to stop trying to fix behaviour & start supporting nervous systems & brain states.
If we keep viewing behaviour through a lens of punitive measures & outdated frameworks we miss the brain & nervous system completely.
This is where real change begins.

Maybe, just maybe the shortened breaks and over emphasis on academic exams might be leaving kids much less able to tolerate the school day.

Interesting article on what lies behind 'behaviour crisis' in schools, but one thing it doesn't address is how schools have changed. If schools are less tolerant places, then may help explain why more children are getting into trouble.

Continuing coverage of the Bayeux controversy seems to imply that visitors were at fault for spending longer than 40 minutes in the exhibition. Was this time limit publicised? Why are visitors being criticised for their interest and engagement? What a dispiriting situation.
The error was in creating the rule, not sending the letter - why do schools find it so hard to admit they got it wrong?

This is particularly crazy. "We were brilliant, but hoi polloi lingered."
This, in the File on 4 story on children being put into care, seems to underestimate the impact on children of neglect. It can be just as harmful, if not more so, than abuse.

It would certainly be infuriating and terribly disappointing to have the experience you had. But what happened here (as I understand it) is that as with all popular exhibitions at museums everywhere, to prevent overcrowding an estimate had to be made as to how long visitors would spend viewing the exhibit. The amount of time allowed for was an average of 40 minutes, which is almost twice as long as the average time visitors take in France.
The British Museum ticketing was based on this - it is not correct to call this "overbooking". It was a reasonable and generous calculation, taking into account the experience of the museum in France. However, it turns out that visitors in London are taking much longer than in France to view the tapestry. As a condition of lending the Tapestry, there is strict limit on the amount of light it can be exposed to, which the museum must rigorously observe or risk damaging it as well as breaching the agreement. So they cannot extend viewing times or take a lax view when people take longer than expected in the way museums normally do.
That is why I say it is not really the British Museum's fault that ticket holders are being turned away, although I agree it would be maddening and upsetting.

You have vastly underestimated the disdain in which George Osborne holds the general public, and overestimated his desire to give up the champagne and caviar perks which come from hosting glitzy events as if the British Museum were his private ballroom.

British Musuem chairman George Osborne can't just bask in the champagne-swigging glory of hosting the Bayeux Tapestry, he has to get a grip on this contempt for the public. And Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy should pull her finger out too.
I have a private corporate invite to view Bayeaux Tapestry next week @britishmuseum for which I am grateful but I can't help noticing there are a lot of stories of non corporate punters with purchased tickets being turned away mid way through queuing: what is BM doing about this?
Nick Morrison retweeted
This is what annoys me. Osborne and his swanky corporate parties taking precedence over people who've booked, paid and queued only to be turned away because the British Museum he's Chair of have treated visitors like cattle, cramming in too many in too short time slots.
