A recipe for massive technical debt: 📉
🚫 Throw a large number of developers at an empty project...and tell them to hurry.
🚫 Don't bother with communication, planning, or collaboration. We don't have time for that.
🚫 Give them no clear technical guidelines or direction. Assume they'll figure it out.
🚫 Skip types. Assume we can move faster in a "dynamic, fast-paced environment".
🚫 Ignore key aspects of quality like security, performance, accessibility, readability, and reuse. Assume we can tack those on at the end.
🚫 Skip reviews / pairing. Assume whatever everyone writes is fine.
🚫 Don’t configure CI, source control, testing, formatting, or linting up front. Assume we’ll do these things later.
Good luck.🤞

I’ll be working from Amsterdam for a couple of days next week 🇳🇱
Can anyone recommend good places to work from? I’m looking for coworking spaces or cafes with strong wifi ☕️
Dank je!

Interestingly, the majority of framework apps I've traced have suffered poor performance due to two reasons (typically not the core library at all):
1. Ecosystem bloat: "I need an npm package for X,Y, Z" = death by 1000 cuts
2. Third-party scripts: trackers, ads, widgets etc.
I've seen this whether you're building with Svelte/Lit/Solid/Preact or with React/Vue/Angular. Some data where interactivity is concerned: developer.chrome.com/blog/in….
Folks can (perhaps rightly) suggest React could have had a stronger performance culture all these years. I think React Server Components are a big step in the right direction towards it and the ecosystem around it shifting a little further away from client-side costs.
Why do people choose React over Vue? I love Vue and use it a lot for DX, but think the popularity differences come from a combination of marketing/awareness differences (particularly in the US) and ecosystem.
I will say it's healthy to see Vue/Svelte/Astro/Lit etc. picking up more steam lately and hope folks feel they have a number of good options depending on their usecases.

I'm constantly amazed how bad people are at communicating problems and the value of their proposed solutions in presentation decks. It's obvious to them that their idea is the best, so they basically get stuck repeatedly saying “but we’re the best” without showing any evidence.
