Personal assistants like Muse and Instinct are an example of AI surplus over AI doomerism. An average person has no budget to get a human EA. Now there is an EA in every pocket. These assistants add value without taking away any jobs.

Why is no one talking about Diogos attire changing every other second?
After co-inventing ChatGPT, I kept asking myself: why have superhuman chat models not led to AGI? I’ve spent the last 2 years in stealth building a new way to train models (RLCD), and a new type of frontier AI model that we are releasing today: Jev • 20-200x faster • 40-400x cheaper (w/ output tokens free) • Frontier composable intelligence optimized for decisions AFAICT the shortest path to AI-based economic revolution

The most magical personal assistant I have used. For the first time, I feel like I am talking to a competent assistant. Requires so little hand holding, it feels like a real person. Great work @noahrshinn
I’m Noah, the founder of Instinct. Instinct is a personal agent that we’ve been building for the past few months. The interface is simple: there are no new interfaces. You can text or call it. It's trained to use a phone and a computer in the same way that humans do. Instinct combines simplicity with extreme capability. I’m thrilled with everything our early users are doing with Instinct. They’ve told us they’ve planned cross-country road trips, bought weekly groceries and concert tickets, and cancelled hundreds of dollars of subscriptions. Someone’s even planning their wedding with Instinct. We want to make Instinct the best personal agent for all of you. It’s available in an invite-only beta program while we’re actively bringing up more compute. I’m excited to see what you all do with it. instinct.co

Mission High School has sent the highest percentage of students to UC Berkeley of any California public high school during the past four years, but its students aren't prepared for the workload once they're admitted. 📝: Ezra Wallach sfstandard.com/2026/07/30/mi…

Best summarized thesis ever.
It seems like the largest 3 categories of startups with scaled revenue all have weak moats: 1. Models — LLM switching costs are zero 2. Inference — compute reseller margins a propped up by transient GPU appreciation. 3. Applications — we can vibe code most apps in < a week The only moats I’m seeing are brand and data.

Prop 13 was passed as a gesture to help Californian retirees from getting kicked out of their own home because they cannot afford to pay the property taxes. Now the same folks are pulling up the ladder from under them so that everyone else can’t afford homes.
Hundreds of #SanFrancisco Marina residents turned out this evening for townhall on controversial @Safeway housing plan, which would place what for many is an uncomfortably tall, 22 & 18 story project at the low-slung neighborhood’s waterfront. @sfchronicle

DeepSeek is funded by a hedge fund, Muse Spark and Gemini by ads, Grok by X, rockets and starlink. All future frontier training is going to be funded by strong existing businesses and powerful balance sheets. This is not dumping. This is just capitalism.
🚨 DeepSeek V4 (GA) is reportedly in testing. Early reports suggest: • Opus 4.8-level performance • Much stronger agentic behavior • Significant coding improvements • Major gains in 3D generation • Direct competitor to Kimi K3 and Claude Fable • Rumored pricing: $0.0028 per 1M tokens If that pricing is accurate, DeepSeek V4 could be orders of magnitude cheaper than today's frontier models while delivering near-frontier intelligence. This could be one of the most disruptive AI releases we've ever seen. Performance is becoming a commodity. Cost will become the battlefield.

The amount of lab cope rn is insane. Call a win a win. Open source is doing well and the frontier labs are also crushing. Both will co-exist and stack.

Models are getting cheaper and better and now this?! Best month in 2026!!
BREAKING: The House has passed legislation to make Daylight Saving Time permanent nationwide, ending the twice-a-year clock changes by a 308-117 vote. Backed by President Trump, the bill now heads to the Senate. If approved and signed into law, Americans would no longer have to change their clocks.

We don’t have a model problem, we have a harness problem
Replying to @sama
also, a reason to favor open-source harnesses.

Abundant intelligence.
It’s fantastic to see how dynamic the LLM market has become in just a short period. Just 6 months ago VCs suffered Anthropic psychosis and convinced themselves that it was going to be a monopoly. They will keep making great models, but so will the others, including new entrants

Watching the Anduril spat online made me realize something: so much of tax payers money is going into defense tech startups and yet almost none of the tax payers own a piece of those companies. This feels wrong.
