Standing in solidarity with the people of Palestine, Lebanon and Iran implies breaking away from the Israeli war machine. Adopting this motion would ensure our city’s institutions reflect the values of the people who call this place home, regardless of their background.
Opinion: As a Lebanese-Montrealer, Projet Montréal’s motion on Israel is a local matter for me montrealgazette.com/opinion/…

Tech companies “want us to believe” that AI models are “starting to become so powerful that within 10 years they could decide that they want to wipe out humanity or a significant chunk of humanity,” says tech journalist Paris Marx. “That is a mix of science fiction and delusion … and it is also a very effective way to distract from the real harms that we’re seeing from these generative AI products.”

It's really something that the Israel lobby keeps presenting this person as a normal candidate and not someone who has a history of antisemitic harassment and been repeatedly associated with some of the most vile and violent Holocaust deniers around.

Media was all over Avi Lewis for his reflections on the genocide.
But after a major newspaper appeared to threaten him — a major party leader —and his family as a result, the media fell all but silent.
HUGE thank you to @TheTyee for republishing this piece from my substack!

It's hard to believe such an article was published.
Robust debate on political and policy issues is welcome, healthy and part of our democracy.
But the kind of rhetoric in this article puts @avilewis at risk.
This article should be withdrawn and @nationalpost should apologize.

The National Post published an article that appears to incite violence against NDP leader Avi Lewis. In response, the former head of the Jewish Defence League in Canada argues that the National Post is "correct."
This is what the National Post is inciting. This should be taken seriously as a violent threat from a far-right, racist organization with a history of violence against Palestinians.

We are disgusted and disturbed to see a piece run in the @nationalpost that appears to potentially endorse violence against NDP Leader @avilewis for his argument that we all bear a collective responsibility to stop the genocide in Palestine.

We are alarmed about a recent document published by Public Safety Canada which describes anti-Zionism wholly as a form of antisemitism. We reject this claim as a dangerous attack on legitimate political speech, and urge the Canadian government to immediately retract it.
This latest conflation does not come out of nowhere. For years, we have warned that the controversial IHRA definition of antisemitism, adopted by the federal government in 2019, effectively targets speech that is critical of Israel and Zionism. Canada’s IHRA handbook, issued by Canadian Heritage in 2024, identified speech about Zionism as alleged examples of antisemitism. The new document from Public Safety is the most explicit conflation of these concepts yet from the federal government.
By regarding anti-Zionism entirely as a form of antisemitism, Canada is creeping towards the censorship of speech and activism in support of Palestinian human rights. This is the intended result of the relentless pressure from pro-Israel lobby groups, which have been lobbying for anti-Zionism to be treated as synonymous with antisemitism in order to shut down debate about Israel’s escalating crimes against the Palestinian people.
To be clear, Zionism is the political ideology behind the creation of the state of Israel. Like all nationalist ideologies rooted in colonialism, it is not simply benign. Zionism is experienced by Palestinians as dispossession and oppression, due both to the historic planned mass ethnic cleansing of historic Palestine by Zionist forces and the continued violence throughout the occupied territories. Zionism continues to be the ideology that justifies Israel’s system of apartheid that oppresses and dominates the Palestinian people as a whole, as recognized by a virtual consensus of major human rights organizations
We affirm that anti-Zionism is a legitimate form of political, philosophical, and academic expression against concrete injustices, both historical and contemporary. By defining opposition to Zionism as inherently antisemitic, Public Safety Canada is itself engaged in systemic racism against Palestinians and attempting to silence legitimate debate about apartheid and genocide. This perpetuates a climate of political persecution and erodes the ability of Canadians to engage with urgent matters of human rights. This is the very opposite of public safety.
We echo the demands of @IndJewishVoices, the United Jewish People’s Order, and @FacultyJewish, who want the federal government to: 1) clarify that anti-Zionism is not a form of antisemitism; 2) acknowledge the harm that conflating anti-Zionism with antisemitism does to Palestinian and Jewish communities; and 3) affirm the legitimacy of anti-Zionism as part of political debate and criticism concerning Palestine and Israel.

This is appalling, irresponsible and likely criminal. Threatening and inciting others to remove a Canadian political leader for his political views is outrageous. Both the author and the National Post must retract, apologize and reverse this message at once.
Absolutely diabolical. National Post puts a bullseye on Avi Lewis through the rabid ramblings of Yoni Goldstein who invokes Halakhah and Leviticus on how to deal with Jews. Writing Lewis “presents a clear and present danger to the Jewish community” & other Jews are “duty-bound to step in.” This is so irresponsible. The National Post should be stripped of any government funding it receives from Canada. This is wholly negligent and irresponsible.

For more than two months, I have been working on a truly horrific story about one of the gravest war crimes committed by the United States since Vietnam: The bombing of the Shajareh Tayyebeh school in Minab, Iran. It was one of the first targets struck in the opening hours of the war on February 28, 2026.
At least 156 people were killed in the U.S. cruise missile strikes—120 of them were children and 26 were teachers. We spoke to survivors, first responders, parents, doctors, teachers, psychologists, and other witnesses. Some of them had never before shared their experiences of that day.
It would be impossible to do justice to what happened in Minab that day with words alone. In more than 25 years in journalism and reporting on war, I do not believe I have reported on a more heinous single crime.

📢 Take action today — tell Canada that anti-Zionism is not antisemitism! bit.ly/AZsafety
Last week, Public Safety Canada said that anti-Zionism is a form of antisemitism. This is a dangerous distortion of the definition of antisemitism. It confuses the public about the true nature of antisemitism, erases Jewish anti-Zionist histories, and promotes anti-Palestinian racism. The fact that this came from Public Safety Canada is deeply troubling, as it will have a direct impact on how expressions of Palestine solidarity is policed.
We know that, far from being a form of bigoted hatred, anti-Zionism is an affirmation of the rights of all people to live in peace and dignity. We need to make it clear that Public Safety Canada's misdefinition is unacceptable, and that Canadians from all walks of life do not want antisemitism to be weaponized to silence voices speaking out in support of Palestinian human rights. Take action and add your voice today. Go to bit.ly/AZsafety and tell Canada: anti-Zionism is not antisemitism!

By calling for Palestinian unity without exerting pressure on the Israeli gov't, Beijing shields its ties with the Zionist state under the guise of restraint. It deflects responsibility for stopping the genocide onto the UNSC.
