ALT As a borough with diversity as its strength – and as a proud home to our Muslim communities – we stand united with Muslim residents this Islamophobia Awareness Month. The call to ‘flip the script’ is to move from assumptions to awareness, from silence to allyship and from tokenism to true inclusion. In Hackney, we work year round to tackle hate crime, educate about racism and prejudice, and reach out in solidarity to those communities who are under-represented. But we know that events worldwide have at times challenged community cohesion, and that a global, growing discourse of division has made many people feel less safe. That’s why it’s more important than ever that we celebrate what unites us, and why we’re reiterating our commitment to tackling Islamophobia and building a Hackney in which hate has no place and unity is our strongest foundation.
