@ModulusZK is a Layer-1 in which the contract is the specification. State transitions are accepted only when a succinct proof demonstrates that a first-order logic predicate holds. There is no bytecode, no virtual machine and no execution layer. zkFOL translates FOL formulae directly into polynomial constraints (connective-by-connective, following the arithmetisation in Gabbay’s ePrint 2024/954), so the author’s logical statement is the artefact that is proved. A zkVM must arithmetise an instruction set and include the interpreter’s steps in the witness. zkFOL has no machine to arithmetise. The measured consequence, on identical hardware and the same fib(10,000) fast-doubling workload, is a prover envelope of ~4.8–11.5 ms and <10 MB versus 3.7–49 s and 312 MB–17 GB on RISC Zero 3.0.5 / SP1 6.3.1. The gap is structural: a zkVM cannot remove the machine it emulates and remain a zkVM. Privacy is free because every transaction already carries a proof; a predicate that cannot be satisfied simply does not transition.
