Seattle has seen a 90% rise in traffic deaths over the past decade—spiking in 2020, the year SPD largely stopped enforcing traffic laws. Citations dropped from 27,953 in 2019 to just 5,487 in 2024 (-80%). Drivers know there’s no enforcement—and drive like it. It’s time to bring back traffic enforcement. @MayorofSeattle @Sara4Council @SeattlePD

Reminds me of driving around Seattle and seeing multiple cars every minute with expired car tabs.
It is so demoralizing to pay your fare to exit the Metro while watching someone jump the gate without paying. And I don’t blame Metro employees. I don’t expect them to leave their booths and fight fare evaders. But the social contract frays every time people who follow the rules watch those who blatantly ignore them go unpunished. Again and again and again.

Hi @KingCountyMetro: 22 minutes between eastbound Route 8 buses during rush hour today. Why can’t this be reflected in live predictions, instead of showing “Next bus in 5 minutes” for 15 minutes straight? Some disruptions are unavoidable. Bad communication isn’t. Accurate real-time information doesn't require a multimillion-dollar investment. A new bus lane is great, but service will remain mediocre until reliability and real-time information improve. Had I driven today, I would’ve been home 30 minutes earlier. @MayorofSeattle @Alexis4Seattle @seattledot @FixTheL8 @JoyForSeattle

Just to be clear: buses were not stuck on Denny Way (the new bus lane has helped with that): they simply had not started their route from Seattle Center.

This is infuriating.
Actual email from a taxpayer funded lawyer at the Housing Justice Project straight up extorting us for $10,000.

Underwhelming endorsement from the @seattletimes recommending voters to keep the so-called Millionaires Tax. In particular, the part where they say this tax should be kept because otherwise WA electeds might 'consider worse taxes' is a particularly bland argument. "(Legislators) are likely to instead consider raising existing regressive taxes or new ones, like a Seattle-style payroll tax. Those would be worse for the state’s economy." seattletimes.com/opinion/edi…

What's most fascinating is that in Seattle it's the progressive left that has been cheering for the removal of CCTV cameras, in the end arriving at the same position as Gov. Ron DeSantis in Florida. Horseshoe Theory

This is such a mistake. An appalling, self-defeating way to treat our closest ally, with real long-term consequences. Why would Canada, or anyone else, consider the U.S. a reliable ally if all it takes is a change in the White House for treaties, agreements, the rule of law and basic respect to be tossed aside? And I seriously doubt many Americans are waking up thinking, “You know what we need? A 50% tariff on a huge range of Canadian imports.” nytimes.com/2026/08/22/world…

I do not like or support Mayor Katie Wilson, but for a recall to qualify in Seattle, Wilson must have “committed acts of malfeasance,” which, honestly, is a heck of a stretch. How about instead, moderates build a coherent opposition and field candidates who can actually compete when elections come around?

You cannot have nice public infrastructure without aggressive policing of anti-social behavior. Unwillingness to acknowledge this is just lighting municipal budgets on fire.
Look at how disgusting Nithya Raman's public bathrooms are. She has been in charge of the Homelessness Committee for years til she was FINALLY booted last week. Now you see why she got canned. It's absolutely disgusting what she's done to our city.

Terrible policy. This makes Seattle's loss collecting parking meter revenue even greater. As the article indicates, at present "only 1%-2% of drivers use coins". Installing and maintaining these relics from the past that take coins increases the costs to the city way more than it increases its revenue. "being able to pay for parking with coins is an equity issue". It seems like these days anything that does not make sense is about 'equity'. seattletimes.com/seattle-new…

As a Seattle voter, I found this August's primary deeply disappointing. I heard or read almost nothing about Washington having one of the highest unemployment rates in the country, companies leaving or conducting mass layoffs, downtown Seattle's record high office vacancy, or improving day-to-day livability for ordinary residents. Is this really the best we can do? seattletimes.com/seattle-new…

Shocker! Increased fare enforcement reduced fare evasion. @SoundTransit have you considered this groundbreaking approach?
The numbers are in: Metro has the lowest crime rate in history! ✅ Crime down 61% over last 4 years ✅ Fare enforcement up & fare evasion down ✅ Focused on community policing & partnerships. Great job @MetroTransitPD & Team keeping our community & system safe.

This was fascinating for me to read: I hage never been to China, but always imagined rules are carefully followed and enforced. Reading that people are smoking indoors in places where it's banned was a huge surprise. nytimes.com/2026/08/05/world…

San Francisco's 33 speed cameras caused a 79% drop in dangerous speeding, preventing 40,000 speeding incidents every day and saving lives. Why are we even debating this? Put them everywhere. Now. growsf.org/news/2026-07-15-s…

On @SoundTransit Link trains, northbound Line 1 and Line 2 trains share every station from downtown Seattle all the way to Lynnwood City Center. So what's the point of displaying "Connect to Line 1" on a northbound Line 2 train? Who is going to get off a train just to board another train going to the exact same stations? The only station this makes sense to display is at the true connecting station of the network: "International District / Chinatown". Why not use that space to show connecting @KingCountyMetro bus routes and their real-time departure estimates instead? That would actually be useful.
