Does anyone know how long it takes to walk from the Brussels-Zaventem train station to Terminal 2? I arrive to the station at 9:50 and my flight departs at 10:45. Carry-on only. Will I make it?

So, how do we prevent the loss of these precious bivalves? Here are a few things you can do to help:
💙Reduce your own carbon footprint wherever possible and support initiatives and organizations doing the same.

And losing oysters would not only mean losing a sustainable and healthy protein source, but it was also cause significant economic and employment losses for oyster producers and food service operations.

Every oyster we eat has a different taste, texture, salinity, and flavour because of its environment. (👋🏽Hello, merroir!). But when that environment is not in an ideal condition, it makes it much harder to produce good oysters.
Or any oysters at all. 😔

As Julie points out in her #OceanClimateAwareness post, “oyster farming is inherently sustainable, but it’s only as sustainable/viable for producers as Mother Nature allows.”

Oyster growers are facing continuous threats from warming waters, heat waves, droughts, increasing extreme weather events, and ocean acidification. All caused by climate change.

Unfortunately, this image represents a world without oysters. A world that I certainly don’t want to live in, but one that is becoming increasingly more possible due to the impacts of climate change on the ocean.

The Shellfish Growers Climate Coalition goes to DC next week to ask senators to support climate action. Call or email your senators to back up our message. These offices actually do count calls and emails and it actually does make a difference
This Aug 5th #NationalOysterDay, join me in raising awareness of climate impacts on the global oyster industry by posting this type of oyster photo (a platter of oysters...but without the oysters in the shells!) and tagging #OysterClimateAwareness
Can I count you in?

The aquaculture industry lacks diversity in leadership.
Starting in the summer of 2020, the industry made sweeping commitments to DEI in response to the reckoning created by Black Lives Matter in the U.S. and abroad. 1/4

How will we sustainably and equitably feed a growing planet? Coastal land grabs, climate change, and a lack of access to decision making about communal #ocean resources are key challenges to answering this question. 1/4

This Earth Week, we're shell-ebrating all the ways shellfish are important to our planet.
Bivalves like oysters are essential to ocean health, removing excess nutrients at a low cost: just 2.5 acres of shellfish aquaculture filters 40 Olympic swimming pools of water every day!
