Meet the Delegation: Matt, IfNotNow NYC Chapter “Everyone I know [in U.S. Jewish communities] says settler violence is wrong. If we just sit here and sat we don’t agree with settler violence, but then we allow blank checks to be written to the Israeli government, or allow them to purchase deadly weapons from us, we’re sending a message that they can do whatever they want. And I want to take that message back and let people know that there is a systemic issue that really revolves around the government of Israel.”

Shared Safety Delegation member Talia (IfNotNow Bay Area Chapter) reflects on the ever-present threat of danger Palestinians experience while going about their daily lives. She contrasts the fun and warmth of the night she spent in Tuwani with Shoug and Zakariyah al-Adra with the horror experienced by residents of the nearby town of Tuba, who the same night faced an arson attack by Israeli settlers.

“This experience really brought home for me how normalized violence is for Palestinians living in the West Bank.” Shared Safety Delegation member Jenna (IfNotNow LA Chapter) reflects on the night she spent in Susya during our visit to the Masafer Yatta region of the West Bank. She saw her host Ahmad quickly go from having a normal evening to doing emergency fire response nearby in Tuba, which faced an arson attack by Israeli settlers.

Having just been with Palestinians and Israeli solidarity activists in Umm al-Khair and across the West Bank on IfNotNow’s Shared Safety Delegation, we can tell you: the settler attacks that you hear about are NOT isolated or exceptional incidents.  🧵
