Great that @LSB_EngandWal is taking an interest in this area which I hope will drive change.
Next year we will convene a cross-sector debate on professional ethics, the rule of law, and regulation. Ahead of that, one of our regulatory policy managers, Sally Al-Saleem, has written a blog exploring these themes.

🤞🏻I was privileged to serve on @MoJGovUK Bellamy review of criminal legal aid: system desperately needs better funding. But @IRLSR recommendations could help address some challenges of civil legal aid (eg scope & cost) as well as support rule of law & #A2J
From reading the @lawsocgazette this morning, looks like @StephenMayson's latest report is far-fetching. Hopefully the MoJ will take onboard some of his recommendations this time lawgazette.co.uk/news/latest…

V Helpful o/view by @CrispinPassmore re progress since LSA07; he backs one regulator as per @IRLSR @StephenMayson and “choice”; I would have liked more analysis re in-house, rule of law, ethics/ESG; but I accept that changes will be small changes over time. #SmallChangeInHouse

Whilst discussing S 4.12 of @IRLSR with a lawyer recently they suggested that GCs of listed companies might report to the Board and not to their CEO in order to ensure independence. That would a good start, methinks. What do you think @sra_solicitors?

4.12 of @IRLSR brings welcome focus to the role of in-house legal in business for the benefit of society, proposing increased support and guidance for those in that pressured environment. A great opportunity also to share best practice on navigating employer-client independence.
Good question. Not sure that the @lawtech_uk Panel fully appreciated that @IRLSR final report advocated greater regulatory support for in-house lawyers and law depts and was not critical of them @richardsusskind @thatginamiller @ABAPresident

My Q: S4.12 of @IRLSR was critical of current regs of law depts & risks to society. Does the Panel feel COVID-19 will accelerate changes in regs. 'cos orgs, many of whom took COVID financing, will wish to improve behaviour & more independent IHLs will help ESG decision-making?
