IRG helped uncover some facts, but our efforts continue. The Legislature is now demanding more answers from the bureaucrats in Madison. Call Senator Wimberger at 608-266-5670 and tell him thank you for demanding the truth from DPI.
Wasting $368,885 in taxpayer money on a retreat to strategize how to hide school performance standards raises serious questions about how Wisconsin's DPI spends its funds.
I'm looking forward to the forthcoming audit report I ordered investigating how and why Superintendent Underly lowered school performance standards.

IRG is fighting to get two vital reforms back in the state budget — reforms that would help kids in foster care now and years down the line.
✅ End barriers to family reunification based on unpaid child support to the state
✅ Let foster kids keep their Social Security to support themselves in the future
These are smart, compassionate reforms. Let’s get it done.
ICYMI: @ChrisMReader joined @yount1130 to discuss the need for reform in Wisconsin’s Child Welfare system!

Debt should not separate kids from parents. Social Security benefits for children in foster care should stay with the child. Listen on the @megellefsonshow:

Two reforms in particular are primed for bipartisan support (and were even included in DCF's budget proposal!) 1. Stopping the state from confiscating personal property of foster kids - social security payments belong to the kids, not the state.

Reform 2. Stop taking kids' personal property! Some kids in foster care (577 in 2023) receive social security. The state takes the money. It should stay with the kids, put it in an account until they turn 18 so they have an opportunity to succeed.

Reform 1. Let kids and birth parents reunify if the only thing stopping it is debt. That's not right. The parents have done everything to earn back their parental rights. Wisconsin is one of 12 states that still keeps kids from their birth parents over debt to the government.

IRG released a report on child welfare reforms in January that outlines bipartisan reforms to help kids in most need. It’s a playbook on how to fix real problems in a state with divided government. reforminggovernment.org/tran…
