“As Elizabeth spoke of big, structural change for America, I wondered: when was Big gonna structurally change for me?”

San Francisco has not built enough housing to keep up with population growth. This leads to higher housing prices, forcing people who don't work in tech to move out of the city. This hurts everyone, as the city is now less interesting. Agree other cities should learn from this.

The idea that 80 year old buildings (which, for everyone’s information, are actually decades beyond their useful life) can just be magically rehabbed and brought up to modern code requirements for $20,000 😂😂😂
NYCHA housing authority estimates it will cost them about $485,000 per unit to rehabilitate all of the units it needs to.
Is the New York public housing authority a greedy and lazy slumlord, or are you ignorant about actual costs of maintenance in NYC

It's not exactly a mystery!
Those hippies saw anything big as bad, decided that included buildings, and fought for restrictions on denser housing construction that ultimately created an extreme supply shortage, drove prices up, and eventually decimated the city's working-class.

I don’t think you have a dog in this fight but if you did you would have shot it.
I’ll take @ellalangleymsic over Kacey Musgraves any day.
And if I’m choosin’ Texas, I’ll take Ken Paxton over James Talarico.

“Endorsement: Who should replace Nancy Pelosi in Congress? It’s not even a choice”
🔥🔥🔥
"Chan, meanwhile, has a policy agenda and legislative track record that’s as spotty as it is sparse ... [her] record on housing is abysmal.” 🔥🔥🔥

the reason this lesbian bar story went so viral is that basically every left wing person in America has personally experienced some version of this story in their life over the course of the last decade and is really goddam sick of it

Sirota wrote an article rightly taking Newsom to task for killing @Scott_Wiener’s AI safety bill but manages to not mention Wiener at all because heaven forbid he give credit where due to a housing abundance champion.
Kevin Atkinson retweeted
fun fact: Scott Wiener authored one of the first aggressive, comprehensive statewide AI regulatory bills a few years ago, only to have it killed by Nancy Pelosi, your chief backer, teaming up with MAGA VCs from A16z, because she was still trying to hand the seat to her daughter
AI companies cannot be trusted to police themselves. We need Congress to regulate this technology NOW.
And we definitely cannot trust a politician (hint: it's Scott Wiener) supported with $500k from the company that employs this guy ⬇️

literally every single time Connie Chan gets criticism from Scott Wiener she claims it's because he hates women or chinese people. i think the reason he is criticizing you is because you are competing for the same job!

San Francisco “Progressives” will look at you with a straight face and tell you these two charts are completely unrelated.

At the risk of ruining my mentions: As principled as Uncommitted may have been in '24, it was still a miscalculation imo. Any moderate Dems toying with something similar this year because their preferred candidate flopped in a primary would be equally as misguided in my view.
For Democrats in the Trump era, I think the enduring legacy of 2024's Uncommitted movement goes beyond the shift in public opinion or even campaigns like Mamdani's or El-Sayed's. It struck a real blow in the entire "vote blue who no matter who" general election framework, which had dominated since 2016.
This fall, it may be the once-critical establishment who adopts Uncommitted's language of conditional support against the left
Something to watch if El-Sayed and/or Hong win in the Midwest

I authored SB 79 to allow more homes near high quality transit. The law is now in effect, and things are moving quickly, including townhomes proposed in Atherton near the Caltrain station.

Zendaya and Tom Holland got married and no one knew about it and we still haven't seen pictures. THAT is romantic. Having a massive spectacle in the middle of midtown on a holiday weekend is tacky as hell.
