Government cannot claim to care about animal welfare and working people while decimating industries that support them. Targeting businesses based on whether or not the PM likes them is elitist and just plain hypocritical.

The proudest girls in Laois this week ❤️
Mia, Lauren, Ellie and Amy proudly posing with their BAR 1 Irish Laurels Finalist, Slick Sanctuary, at home in Laois today.
The girls are their dad Karol's biggest supporters and we've loved having them and mom Linda here too cheering on their Laurels runners each week of the competition.
Big excitement this week as they prepare for their first Laurels Final and no doubt the girls will be helping out in the build up and on Saturday for racing.
Best of luck ❤️ they even have the red everywhere already!

The difference between us is fundamental. Everytime we race our dogs we want them to return safely. On the other hand, you hope they don’t to further your agenda. That video is so disturbing but important to remember that happens twice in every thousand. 2/1000. Acceptable risk

Where standards fall short, I want them fixed as much as you do. So my invitation is open: come to our kennels, meet our 40 dogs and the people who care for them, and ask whatever you want.

With a surplus of around €9bn, this isn't a choice between greyhounds and anything else. No industry is more deserving than another. Racing is a full life cycle: breeding, rearing, racing, retirement and rehoming, with thousands of families giving it 60 to 70 hours a week.

On value: the State puts €102m into horse and greyhound racing for 2027. The two industries generate an estimated €2.5bn a year and support around 40,000 jobs, mostly rural. Bookmakers also paid over €140m in betting duty last year, more than the whole fund.

This year's increase to the fund is linked directly to implementing the Indecon Review's welfare and integrity recommendations. Cutting it would cut the very work you say you want done. Close to 7,000 racing greyhounds were rehomed over the last five years.

Senator, welfare questions deserve serious answers, and I'd welcome the chance to give you some. But the €20.4m isn't money taken away from welfare. A share of it pays for welfare: care centres, foster care, vet costs and rehoming support for retired greys

Farming, film, tourism and sport all get State support, and nobody questions whether they're "viable". Support that pays back 26 times over is an investment, not a handout.

And the State is running a surplus of around €9bn. This isn't racing versus hospitals. No industry is more deserving than another, and if the Government wants to back other sectors too, there's room to do it.

Bookmakers also paid over €140m in betting duty last year, more than the entire fund. Racing's allocation is more than covered by what the betting industry pays in. It isn't coming out of PAYE workers' pockets.

That return supports thousands of rural jobs, breeding, tourism and hospitality, with a large share going straight back to the Exchequer in tax.

Fair points Kevin, and I appreciate the tone. On the money though: the State is putting €102m into the Horse and Greyhound Fund for 2027. The two industries are estimated to generate around €2.67bn a year. That's roughly €26 back for every €1.

Hi Daniel, why don’t you take up my offer and come to our kennel to see for yourself how these dogs are cared for and we can go thru any issues you have instead of living in this bubble of faux outrage. Have you ever considered seeing it from a different perspective?
