Government cannot claim to care about animal welfare and working people while decimating industries that support them. Targeting businesses based on whether or not the PM likes them is elitist and just plain hypocritical.

The proudest girls in Laois this week ❤️
Mia, Lauren, Ellie and Amy proudly posing with their BAR 1 Irish Laurels Finalist, Slick Sanctuary, at home in Laois today.
The girls are their dad Karol's biggest supporters and we've loved having them and mom Linda here too cheering on their Laurels runners each week of the competition.
Big excitement this week as they prepare for their first Laurels Final and no doubt the girls will be helping out in the build up and on Saturday for racing.
Best of luck ❤️ they even have the red everywhere already!

Senator, welfare questions deserve serious answers, and I'd welcome the chance to give you some. But the €20.4m isn't money taken away from welfare. A share of it pays for welfare: care centres, foster care, vet costs and rehoming support for retired greys

With a surplus of around €9bn, this isn't a choice between greyhounds and anything else. No industry is more deserving than another. Racing is a full life cycle: breeding, rearing, racing, retirement and rehoming, with thousands of families giving it 60 to 70 hours a week.

Farming, film, tourism and sport all get State support, and nobody questions whether they're "viable". Support that pays back 26 times over is an investment, not a handout.

And the State is running a surplus of around €9bn. This isn't racing versus hospitals. No industry is more deserving than another, and if the Government wants to back other sectors too, there's room to do it.

Bookmakers also paid over €140m in betting duty last year, more than the entire fund. Racing's allocation is more than covered by what the betting industry pays in. It isn't coming out of PAYE workers' pockets.

That return supports thousands of rural jobs, breeding, tourism and hospitality, with a large share going straight back to the Exchequer in tax.

Fair points Kevin, and I appreciate the tone. On the money though: the State is putting €102m into the Horse and Greyhound Fund for 2027. The two industries are estimated to generate around €2.67bn a year. That's roughly €26 back for every €1.

Hi Daniel, why don’t you take up my offer and come to our kennel to see for yourself how these dogs are cared for and we can go thru any issues you have instead of living in this bubble of faux outrage. Have you ever considered seeing it from a different perspective?

She thought greyhound racing was cruel.
Until she saw it with her own eyes.
Listen to her story, in her own words 👇🏻
Seeing Is Believing, our new campaign, launches today.
This is race day from the inside: greyhounds coming into the kennels, tails wagging, bouncing with excitement, cared for at every step by their owners.
A lot gets said by people who've never seen it.

@dlLambo hi Daniel please watch this short video. Greyhounds love to race and while it might not be your reality, it is the reality of many people in Ireland 🇮🇪

Daniel, greyhound racing is 7 times safer than horse racing. It is a sport enjoyed by many. As you can appreciate a lot of spectator sports have moved online. As a man that I’ve a lot of time for I would appreciate if you could visit out kennel in Newry to see what is reality

Hi Daniel , myself and my whole family go to it. Our livelyhoods and our 8 staff livelihoods depends on it. If you don’t agree with racing that’s fair but would love to welcome you to see the “treatment of the dogs” at our place. Le meas Aoife.
