IGAD Advances National Coordination to Counter Hate Speech and Disinformation in South Sudan 📍 Juba, South Sudan 🗓️ 13-15 October 2026 IGAD, through @IGAD_CEWARN in partnership with @AUC_PAPS, today kicked off a three-day national workshop to support the establishment of a National Multi-Agency Coordination Platform for Countering Hate Speech and Disinformation in South Sudan. Convened are government institutions, independent national institutions, political parties, civil society, media, academia, fact-checking and religious organizations, and other relevant stakeholders to strengthen national coordination in preventing and responding to harmful narratives that can fuel tensions and conflict. The workshop is expected to define the structure, membership and operational priorities of a national platform to counter hate speech and disinformation in South Sudan, assess national capacities and coordination gaps, and inform a National Action Plan. It aims to strengthen information sharing, joint risk analysis and timely preventive action, while promoting social cohesion and safeguarding freedom of expression. This follows establishment of a similar Platform in Ethiopia in May 2026. This initiative is supported by the United Nations Office of the Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa (@OSE_HoA) and the United Nations Development Programme (@UNDP). #IGAD #SouthSudan
