Beatrice Ogutu, Executive Director, Investing in Children and the societies (ICS-SP): Holiday seasons are a double-edged sword for parents; it’s a time for fun because our children are back home, but it comes with its own share of stress. The family is the first home for a child and the parent is the first educator. Intentionality in creating time to be together with our children, to connect, to build that relationship, this is the season to make that intentional time. You can take two hours and make it a very quality time to interact, to know your child and guide them. Parents must take care of themselves, to rest and eat well, so that they show up well #CitizenMondayReport

🧠 Parenting Tip: Positive Communication at Home
Are you aware that over 50% of family conflicts stem from poor communication?
It’s not just about what’s said it’s how it’s said, when it’s said, and whether anyone truly feels heard.
Findings show:
Families that don’t hold regular conversations are more likely to experience tension, distance, and emotional disconnection.
Children raised in homes with shouting, blame, or silence often adopt those patterns in their own relationships.
Lack of communication leads to built-up resentment, stress, and anxiety across all age groups.
But there’s good news it’s fixable.
Pause before reacting. Respond, don’t react. Tone is everything.
Hold weekly “family check-ins” a space where everyone can share without fear.
Listen to understand, not just to reply. Sometimes silence is the strongest support.
The result?
💬 Fewer arguments. Deeper connections. A home where everyone feels heard.
Because when families learn to communicate positively, they they thrive.

🌟 Strengthening Partnerships, Celebrating Impact! 🌟
We were honoured to host a successful donor visit in Kakuyuni location, Machakos county under the Malezi Mema Elimu Bora (MAMEB) project, in partnership with ERIKS Development partner. The visit offered a powerful opportunity to showcase the tangible progress we're making in improving learning outcomes, strengthening families, and creating safe, nurturing environments for children.
📍 Visit Highlights:
✅ Courtesy call to the County Commissioner’s Office – reinforcing government collaboration and support.
✅ A vibrant engagement at Kakuyuni Primary School, where learners shared how life skills sessions are boosting their confidence, critical thinking, and ability to make positive choices.
✅ A meaningful session with parents and caregivers, who reflected on how the Positive Parenting Programme is helping them understand child development, embrace positive discipline, and foster stronger parent-child relationships.
👩🏽🏫 Teachers Matter Too!
Through our Lunch & Learn sessions, teachers are being equipped with tools to better understand and respond to their learners’ unique needs, apply positive discipline strategies, and build nurturing, respectful classroom environments.
💬 “I’ve learned to listen more, shout less, and guide my child with patience. Our relationship has completely changed.” – Caregiver, Kakuyuni
We celebrate this continued progress as a collective effort — made possible by committed parents, educators, community leaders, and government stakeholders. Together, we are creating safe, inclusive, and empowering learning environments for every child.

Orphaned and vulnerable children belong in loving families. It can be hard for caregivers facing physical, emotional, or financial limitations. This is where we come in. By equipping and supporting caregivers, children stay in safe, loving homes—right where they belong.

As we mark the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence from November 25th to December 10th, We stand united with communities and organizations worldwide in the fight against all forms of violence.
#GBV continues to affect millions, perpetuated by entrenched social norms, inequality, and inadequate accountability structures. The impact is profound: limiting access to education, health, safety, and economic opportunities.
We are committed to challenging these injustices through advocacy, awareness-raising, and community-centered solutions. Over these 16 days, we will engage communities in critical dialogue, facilitate access to resources, and advocate for survivor-centered policies that uphold dignity and human rights.
We will amplify our commitment to creating safe spaces where everyone can live free from violence.
We call upon governments, civil society, and individuals to join us in this campaign to transform systems, promote inclusion, and uphold justice for all. Let us not only raise awareness but also drive action that will dismantle the structures enabling #GBV.
The fight against GBV is urgent, and the time to act is now! The power to end violence is within our collective hands!
