The Interfaith Center of New York stands with our faith communities and new neighbors, who are left wondering how much longer our city and country must be terrorized by a lawless federal department whose officers shoot first and ask questions later. Last night, in the Marble Hill section of the Bronx, an ICE agent shot and wounded a man inside his car while his five-year-old son was present. This is an alarming and unacceptable use of force that puts entire communities, including children, at risk. We call on Kingsbridge Associates LLC and other private landlords to stop collaborating with ICE by allowing their parking lots to be used as staging grounds. Yesterday’s tragedy was preventable. @sikh_coalition @simran @JCRCNY @MCNNY @Hindus4HR @RiversideNYC @EpiscopalNY

We remember the New Yorkers of all backgrounds who fought for the rights of their Muslim neighbors who were profiled and detained in the days after 9/11 and were targeted, spied on, and discriminated against in the years that followed 9/11. Let’s not allow this week's bigoted calls for the Mayor of New York City to sit out the commemorative events allow ignorance and prejudice to prevail again.
Division should not prevail over the spirit of unity that brought us together after September 11th. On this 25th anniversary, we should honor those we lost by coming together again as New Yorkers and Americans. The Mayor of New York City will be there, as he should be.

I was a guest in a Muslim house of worship and showed respect for the people who welcomed me. That used to be standard in this country before you came along. I’ll never apologize for treating people of any faith with dignity, no matter how Islamophobic you and your enablers are.

We are apalled by the hate-filled attack on members of @CenSynNYC disrupting Shabbat services, physically assaulting an elderly woman and security personnel and terrifying not only others in the congregation but Jewish New Yorkers across the city. All of us are at our most vulnerable during worship and acts of hate like these are a threat to all New Yorkers. We are grateful to the @NYPDPC for their swift response @JCRCNY @NYBR @CBST
I am horrified by the assault at Central Synagogue during services today. I can only imagine the pain and fear an attack like this, during Shabbat services, causes for the congregation and for Jewish New Yorkers across our city. Every New Yorker must be able to observe their religion without fear of violence. This despicable act has no place in our city, and our administration will do everything in our power to keep Jewish New Yorkers safe. The alleged perpetrator is in custody and there is no known ongoing threat in or around the synagogue. We are in close contact with the NYPD and will share more information as it becomes available.
