My article in @FortuneMagazine on how dollarization enforces fiscal discipline:
"A populist leader in a dollarized country cannot monetize his spending and therefore faces a much tighter budget constraint. Dollarization arguably saved Ecuador from hyperinflation."

Anti-nuclear groups in Switzerland have got enough signatures for a national referendum that would keep the ban on new nuclear construction. The referendum would happen in early 2027. Article link in reply.
Interesting move given current public attitudes. Recent polling shows that 79% of the Swiss public supports keeping existent reactors running, while 59% support construction of new plants. Switzerland's parliament repealed the country's nuclear construction moratorium that was imposed in 2018. (Link to poll results in a second article.)
The anti's timing is bad. This surge in nuclear support is partly due to energy security concerns due to the Iran war. These concerns will not disappear in a few months.
Is this a last dash, doomed effort by the antis? Do they think that a fearmongering campaign will be successful in changing public attitudes? I sure hope not.
