The anti-aquaculturists DO know how to market their shtick. Terrible for sustainable seafood. #aquaculture #salmon

"The proper role of government, however, is that of partner with the farmer - never his master.” ~ President Dwight D. Eisenhower Sadly, so many governments appear to have forgotten this.

The news article by the Canadian Seafood Farms gave me a smile and pride that we are improving the aquaculture industry and that salmon/trout feed matters. 🇨🇦🐟

When environmentalists make such misinformed and blatantly false statements, they actually endanger the environment and environmentalism. #aquaculture #salmon
"Toxic fish factories." That's how Green Party leader Elizabeth May describes salmon farms operating in partnership with coastal BC First Nations. Divisive language from the leader of a party that claims to champion Indigenous rights and self-determination. 🧵

Temple Grandin (played here by Claire Danes in her biopic) understands that - done right - a farm animal's life is preferable. She has an uncanny abilty to see from the animal's perspective. This applies to farmed salmon as well! #aquaculture #salmon

The idealogue activists are unrelenting and so out of touch with reality. Farming fish is good and necessary for a sustainable seafood supply. It can be done right. Where is the reasonable dialogue? #aquaculture #salmon
Replying to @BBCRadioScot
@BBCRadioScot visited #Shetland as it covered on a campaign against farm-raised salmon. The report gave the sector and the supermarket, M&S, the opportunity to respond directly to the claims being made about our sector. @scotseafarms | @marksandspencer #ScottishSalmon | #Aquaculture | #FishFarming | #MadeinScotland

Scrutiny matters. So does transparency. @tavishscott explains why organisations seeking to influence the sector should be open about who funds their campaigns and what that funding supports. @TheScotsman here: bit.ly/ScotsmanDarkMoney #Aquaculture | #RuralScotland | #MadeinScotland

The elephant in the room: Fish farming is illegal in Alaska - where it could be a major global force. This article illustrates how critical the seafood fishery is to the State and how political and unscientific things can get in its discussions & managment. The nidus of the anti-salmon farming movement IS Alaskan salmon fishery market protectionism- unfortunately, not conservation. Activism has grown out of this to become a multi-million dollar industry in of itself. There - said it. #aquaculture #salmon

Ever wondered what it looks like inside a #Scottishsalmon pen? This clip was taken earlier this year at a Scottish salmon pen. It illustrates how clean and ideal our pens are for faming #salmon. Read more here: bit.ly/SSApproachtoHealthWel… #Aquauculture | #MadeinScotland | #HealthandWelfare

Farmed salmon diseases do not affect wild salmon populations in BC or WA State. All made up (but what do I know?). #aquaculture #salmon
Another year has passed, marking ten years of sea lice monitoring in the Broughton Archipelago and nine years in the Discovery Islands, and the data continue to confirm that BC salmon farms are not driving sea lice levels in wild Pacific Salmon. Since the farms were removed, sea lice on wild juvenile pink and chum salmon have not decreased or disappeared, either in the percentage of fish infected or in the average number of lice on infected fish. Instead, the data show natural year-to-year variability. These closures caused significant economic impacts, including 1,500 fewer jobs, $640 million in lost economic activity, the cancellation of more than $1 billion in investment, and 35,000 tonnes of farmed salmon removed from production. “BC Salmon Farmers are committed to ensuring that salmon farms coexist with wild salmon in coastal British Columbia. Sea lice monitoring and innovation to ensure that sea lice levels on farmed salmon cannot spread to wild salmon are a critical part of operations,” said Brian Kingzett.
