WIND OUTLOOK: WEDNESDAY–THURSDAY Model runs have shown a noticeable increase in wind strength over the past 24 hours, as a marked area of low pressure and an associated cold front move eastwards on Wednesday morning. I have issued a broad Level 1 wind risk across a large portion of the UK, with strong gusts possible. A coastal Level 2 risk is also in place, with very strong gusts possible. The strongest winds are expected to begin during the early hours across the South West, spreading eastwards through Wednesday and potentially continuing past dark across parts of the South East. Peak gusts of up to 60-65 mph are possible along exposed parts of the southern coastline, particularly across the South West, with parts of South Wales also at risk. Potential impacts include branch damage, unsecured objects becoming hazardous, and travel disruption. In my opinion, these conditions warrant consideration of a Yellow Weather Warning for wind, particularly across coastal and exposed areas where the strongest gusts are expected.
