It's time to sunset further build out of the Interstate Highway System. Shift the focus to maintenance only. No need build new corridors or add lanes to existing ones as we know that doesn't work. Flip the 80/20 transportation funding model the other way while we're at it.

Austin City Council just voted to place a $460 million bond on the ballot in November to fund safe and active transportation improvements!!!
They’re still discussing details of the contract with the voters, but we will get to vote for safe, accessible, multimodal streets!

The road diet and pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure planned for Bagby Street on the western edge of downtown should be continued on West Dallas to Shepherd Drive connecting more than five mixed use projects to the Houston Theater District and City Hall.
New post: @DowntownHouston is bringing a permanent road diet to Bagby Street in January. By converting under-utilized car lanes into a cycle track and sidewalk improvements they're bringing huge change to an area full of parks and cultural hotspots.

We talk about transit-dependent riders. We should talk a lot more about car-dependent drivers — people who can’t afford to own a car but feel they have to buy one because we built places where that’s the only semi-reliable way to get around. That’s the opposite of freedom.
