In Texas, the term “non-profit hospital” is an absolute oxymoron. The way they are operating is essentially anything BUT not-for-profit. 💰 @HospFactCheck @CASEforAmerica

A new AHIP analysis shows the majority of Americans’ premium dollars go toward paying the high and sharply rising prices charged by hospital systems and drugmakers, which together account for nearly two-thirds of Americans’ healthcare dollar. ahip.org/news/articles/nearl…

Five or fewer hospital systems control at least half the market in 42 states and D.C. That’s not competition. That’s a cartel with a billing department. Break up Big Hospital. Patients first. archive.ph/vfrDJ – at Alexandria, VA

PRA’s new report found that only 18% of hospitals reviewed posted prices in usable dollars and cents for at least half of the items and services in their pricing file, and the majority of hospitals reviewed failed to even comply with federal price transparency rules. Patients need access to actual, upfront prices so they're empowered to shop for care and avoid overcharges!

Transparency does not fail because hospitals cannot disclose prices. It fails when public policy asks institutions to behave differently without changing the incentives that shape their behavior. | Forefront @PeterPitts | @drugwonks healthaffairs.org/do/10.1377…

Find your hospital’s Form 990. Go to Part I, line 19. That number is what remained after every claimed expense. Then write this sentence: “My nonprofit hospital kept $________ last year and paid no income tax on it.” Reply with the hospital and the number. Let’s build the national ledger they hoped nobody would read.

Yes @joerogan, you heard that right: so-called nonprofit hospital systems are driving up costs for patients while operating more like hedge funds with hospital beds. That's exactly why I brought the CEOs of the largest hospital systems in the country before the Ways and Means Committee. These CEOs are putting profits over patients, leading to skyrocketing costs of care and worse outcomes for patients. The Ways and Means Committee isn’t done holding these health care empires accountable because Americans deserve better.

For years, hospitals kept Americans in the dark about the true cost of care. Families made medical decisions without knowing the price—and too often got hit with bills that drained their savings. That ends now. Under President Trump’s leadership, HHS is enforcing hospital price transparency with real consequences. @DrOzCMS and I have a simple message for hospitals: Post your actual prices. Come into compliance immediately—or face serious consequences.

Totally agree — hospital consolidation has given these big systems way too much leverage, and it's the families and patients who feel it most in higher bills. We need more real competition and transparency to keep costs in check while protecting quality care. Let's push for smarter solutions that put people first. #HealthcareReform #PatientFirst

Hospital system consolidation and expansion is one of the biggest drivers of US health care costs and a major reason hospital services are the major outlier in US inflation:
"Hospital markets have become increasingly consolidated, with one or two health systems controlling at least 75% of the market for inpatient hospital care in the large majority of metropolitan areas (83%) in 2024, according to KFF analysis, contributing to higher prices." kff.org/health-costs/hospita…

Hidden hospital prices are hurting patients. Cynthia Fisher joined @nbcwashington's @susanhogantv to explain how one MRI that could cost around $300 cash at an imaging center was billed at $7,500 through a major hospital system with a $2,200 copay.
